Adult Lead Program
The mission of the Adult Lead Program of the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) is to prevent and control adult lead poisoning by:
- Investigating and tracking cases of elevated blood lead levels in NYC residents, age 16 years and older.
- Notifying individuals with high blood lead levels, investigating sources of exposure, and monitoring the blood lead levels.
- Educating the public about sources of lead poisoning and ways to reduce blood lead levels.
- Promoting best practices to prevent lead poisoning in the workplace.
- Educating workers, employers, and medical providers about the risks of lead exposure.
