Nintendo Magazine System

EMAP gained the official Nintendo license and as a result when Mean Machines split, the Nintendo side gained the blessing of the Big N.

The magazine shared many staff members with Mean Machines Sega, but the tone and design was much changed. A string of editors came and went (including former CVG head chappy Tim Boone) and the publication successfully followed the launch of the N64 in the mid-90s.

The name was changed to Official Nintendo Magazine at around the same time, and when Mean Machines Sega folded, ONM kept on going.

In 2005 Future Publishing wrestled the official Nintendo license away from EMAP’s and the magazine died for good, marking the end of the publishing giant’s interest in the videogame sector – a sector in which it had done much to shape.
