Way more fun for less than dinner and a movie.

Free Bytes: Family Feud

100 people surveyed said this is one of the best free games on the net.

You can keep your Deal or No Deal, The Weakest Link, Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader? and all that dross. My favorite quiz shows are the classics -- Blockbuster, Blankety Blank, Who Wants to be a Millionaire, and my very favorite, Family Feud.

Chrono Trigger Review (DS)

It's about time.

Boasting open-ended gameplay and multiple endings, Chrono Trigger was a unique title that captured the hearts of gamers everywhere and was quickly considered one of the greatest RPGs of the '90s, if not all time. Originally released on the Super NES in 1995, and later reprinted for the PlayStation as part of a compilation, Chrono Trigger is no stranger to the gaming world. It was only a matter of time before this timeless classic resurfaced again.

A Game You Should Play: Sly 2: Band of Thieves

Crime pays.

The closest I ever came to embarking on a life of crime was when I went through a lying streak at the age of nine. Nicole, did you turn on all the lights in the house? Nicole, did you steal that cookie from your sister? Nicole, did you try to flush the cat down the toilet? No matter how many times my parents caught me red-handed doing all of these things (hand on light switch, cookie in mouth, or wet kitty wrapped in toilet paper), my answer was always “No.”

This Week in Music Games: December 26

Rock Band and Guitar Hero both leave something special under the tree.

The holidays have finally come, and I'm betting there were an awful lot of music games sitting under an awful lot of trees this year. Judging from the near-constant stream of stories in the mainstream media, the music genre is poised to own yet another holiday season, maybe even more than last year. With the U.S. economy being what it is, you may think folks aren't going to be willing to put down the big bucks for the games and necessary peripherals. But I think we're all going to be surprised. My prediction: The Guitar Hero and Rock Band franchises will turn out to have been major pillars of the video game industry this holiday season. Mark my words.

Guitar Hero: On Tour Review

It's Guitar Hero in the palm of your hand! Sort of.

As someone who's spent several hundred hours -- and probably twice as many dollars -- pretending to have actual musical talent with plastic instruments, I welcomed the opportunity to play Guitar Hero on the go with open arms. After all, combining the pick-up-and-play convenience of the Nintendo DS with Guitar Hero's signature brand of faux rock ought to be a match made in Rock 'n' Roll Heaven -- the very same Rock 'n' Roll Heaven where Kurt Cobain and Jimi Hendrix play Four Square with Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jon Bonham.

We met playing EverQuest online -- now we're married

The couple that adventures together stays together.

Matt St. Gelais, a 37-year-old manager of an office supply store, and Liz Rasmussen, a 40-year-old licensing officer for a national trucking company, met online while playing a massively multiplayer role-playing game. This past July, they made their relationship a little more formal: They got married.

7 Great Travel Games

Choice handheld games for a variety of on-the-go situations.

For those who live in a different part of the country (or world) from their family and friends, the holiday season is prime time for travel, along with the waiting and hassle that come along with such adventures. If you haven't already invested in a PSP or Nintendo DS Lite, now's the time -- handheld games were created to address the potential boredom and frustrations that come with long trips, so don't make the mistake of being empty-handed this holiday season.

6 Bargain Bin Picks for the Hardcore Gamer on Your List

Almost out of time, cash, and ideas doesn't have to stress you out.

If you've been putting off getting an present for your cousin Jeff (who now only goes by the name of Gunner) because all of those games that he likes are beyond your understanding, snatch a game off of this list. And if these are your type of play, the markdown might be enough to justify an added treat to yourself. You'll find a lot of bargain bins out at game stores this year, and there are plenty of gems to be found that are worth well more than the $20 or so you'll pay. These titles in particular are definitely worth snatching.

Free Bytes: TumbleDrop

Cuteness is in the balance.

It’s a bright, sunny day on a tiny island surrounded by fluffy white clouds and undulated pixel waves. A pile of precariously stacked yellow blocks with hot pink trim are soaking in the glorious rays and wafting in the warm summer breeze. Content to sit around enjoying the pleasant view, each offers a friendly smile and an occasional blink. Life is good for these little guys and for the bright pink star sitting atop their pile. At least until you send them crashing down into chaos.

A Game You Should Play: Bully

Way more fun than actually going to school.

Title aside, Bully is a charming, tongue-in-cheek game about schooldays. There's no violence except fist fighting, potato spud launching, wedgie plaguing, and the like. The game is as much about standing up to bullies as it is bullying, and that's just one of many activities in this action adventure game with great characters and an interesting storyline. It's also one of the funniest games I've ever played.
