Game Deals: Week of February 23, 2009

Hope you're ready to rock, because retailers are offering up those Guitar Hero deals.
by Dana Jongewaard

If you want to be a rock star and want to save money, then you're in luck -- Guitar Hero bargains are overflowing like mad this week. But even if pretending to have talent isn't your thing, you can find some other deals too if you look closely.

Amazon: Purchase a Wii at Amazon, and get 10 percent off the purchase of a Wii game and any Wii accessories you might want to add. Also, for today only, Amazon is running its Gold Box deals on PS2 titles -- so far, Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 is offered for $26 instead of the usual Amazon price of $37, and Lego Batman is only $15 instead of $28; more deals will be listed throughout the day. PS2 gamers looking for additional bargains can pick up Katamari Damacy for $11 instead of the usual $20 or Persona 3 FES for $30 instead of $50; Wii gamers can score the Wii Guitar Hero III bundle for $60 instead of $80, or get a $10 savings on Shaun White Snowboarding Road Trip.

Best Buy: This isn't the best place to get a deal this week, but if you've been wanting to pick up the PS3 version of the full Guitar Hero World Tour bundle, you can save $20 (making it $170). Also, the 360 version of Saints Row 2 is now marked down to $50, a deal which can be found at other stores as well..

GameStop/EB Games: Get $20 off all versions of the Guitar Hero World Tour bundle. You can also save $10 on the PC and PS3 versions of Call of Duty: World at War (a deal that is in place at Amazon as well). Cooking Mama for Wii and Sonic Chronicles on DS have both had price drops (now $40 and $25), and if you think you'll want to buy Resident Evil 5, you get an extra 20 percent in credit on games traded toward its purchase.

Target: If you'd rather only save $15 on Guitar Hero World Tour, you can do that here at Target this week. If you're a 360 gamer who wants a deal on Call of Duty: World at War, this is the only place that seems to be offering the $10 off that the PS3 version seems to be getting everywhere. And in the only real deal of the week, Dead Space is on sale for just $40 for both the PS3 and 360 versions.

Toys R Us: The winner in this week's battle of the band deals is Toys R Us, which has a slew of Guitar Hero deals, including a $50 savings plus free shipping for the PS2, PS3, and2360 Guitar Hero World Tour bundles. Wii gamers don't get the same deal, but they can pick up the Guitar Hero III bundle for only $50 instead of $80. The Guitar Hero Aerosmith bundle for 360 is $35 instead of $90, or if you just need another 360 guitar, you can pick up a wired one for $20 instead of $60. Non-music lovers can pick up Trauma Center: New Blood on Wii for just $20, and Fracture is selling for just $20 now, a deal also available at other stores.

Walmart:

Get two DS games for just $20 -- the list of 25 to choose from isn't all good, but it does include some good titles like Picross or Geometry Wars Galaxies. Or you can choose two Wii games for just $30, picking from a list of 53 that includes Battle of the Bands and Harvey Birdman.

Xbox Live Arcade: This week only, save $5 on Braid, which is on sale for $10.

Killzone 2 comes out for the PlayStation 3 this week, and in honor of its enemy Helghast's orange glowing eyes, we thought we'd ask the all-important question: if you were an alien life form, what color of glowing eyes would you want?
