- "Don't get burned"
This antivirus program offers rock-solid protection. AVG Free provides the bare necessities, including a real-time shield to prevent infections, anti-virus and anti-malware wrapped up in one engine, and a link scanner for Web surfing with care.
By default, the application is set to search for new virus definitions daily, but you always can use the scheduling tool to change this. Should a virus create serious system problems, AVG creates a rescue disk to scan your computer in MS-DOS mode. The program doesn't tax your system when scanning or when running in the background and always proved effective in our tests. The new interface is much easier to navigate than in previous version, with tabbed navigation on the left assisting users in drilling down to the tools they need.
Though the free version of this program will suffice for average folks, those who demand more control should certainly consider AVG Anti-Virus Professional.

Version: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 8.0.237
Pros: WAS a very good program and free is always good.
Cons: Latest edition has real problems which are not being addressed or corrected
Summary: Don't believe me, check their forum. Numerous people experiencing serious issues with install/uninstall and connectivity. Convoluted solutions being suggested there which are basically useless.
NOT recommended until these issues are resolved. -

Version: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 8.0.237
Pros: I have yet to come across a product that you can install and forget like AVG. Norton and Mcafee slow your computer down and have caused conflicts in the past, but AVG seems to work seemless with everything, even the windows security programs.
Cons: Make sure you set the timer for when your virus scans are taken place otherwise you may be getting them in the middle of the night and if your hard drive is like mine, it'll wake you up!
Summary: Great free product, so easy my grandma could use it! And the killer is I haven't had a virus slip by it yet!

Version: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 8.0.237
"Install-it-forget-it! Literally!"
Pros: Quick automatic definition updates. Detects, repairs and protects well. Haven't had a single virus in my PC since the past four years. Simple to use too.
Cons: Haven't actually come across any.
Summary: It updates itself regularly, the updates aren't too bulky so they are very quick. Doesn't take a lot of load like other anti-virus softwares. Just perform one scan after installing and then keep auto-protect on.
