Version: Avira AntiVir Personal - Free Antivirus 8.2.0.337
"Works great on my desktop but had problems on my laptop"
Pros: Works great and runs quietly on my vista desktop. I've used Avast for the past couple years and I like Avira even better!
Cons: For some reason, when I put this on my XP netbook I keep having problems. I get an error that I am out of virtual memory. This is just a netbook but with 1GB of RAM and no other programs running this shouldn't be happening. Switched back to Avast.

"Does what it says; keeps the viruses away."
Pros: Free. Seems to work OK, easy to use, not given me any probs so far. Still using my Norton Syustemworks alongside -about to expire.
Cons: Limited features. The pop up window is annoying but bearable. When scanning if it thinks its found a virus it will stop until resolved, annoying. Did I say limited features?
Summary: I'm using it for 3 months already. read more

"does not offer UNINSTALL icon"
Pros: Free, but low grade.
Cons: Can't find uninstall icon, Help icon has bad uninstall link
"The requested URL /i_idt_1337.html was not found on this server."
Very slow, scans forever, found 0 infected objects, on average other programs find 100's weekly, ad wares, spy wares etc.Summary: Save yourself the time, and the disk space. Avoid AVAST. read more

Version: Avira AntiVir Personal - Free Antivirus 8.2.0.337
Pros: It works. For real.
Cons: Annoying nag screens.
Summary: The nag screens are worth it for the ease of use, good protection, and free system resources. I, unfortunately, lost 4 systems in 3 months using avg, and needed a new antivirus. I tried this one, and it actually works when I use it. It hasn't failed ... read more
