UGO's Bands on Demand - Nas
Nas
The son of jazz musician Olu Dara, Nas (born Nasir Jones) left conventional education behind in the eighth grade, leaving books and rulers behind for the tougher leassons to be learned on the streets of the Queensbridge projects, a well-known stomping ground for the likes of Marley Marl back in the day. These experiences certainly contributed to the real-life poetry that Nas delivered so well. Nas honed his microphone skills to the point that he could cripple opponents by merely approaching them. After doing the amateur thing for a while, he got his break when approached by MC Serch of Third Bass with an offer to contribute to the Zebrahead soundtrack. Major record label deals followed, along with a series of highs and lows that would give Nas one of the most tumultuous careers in modern hip-hop. Fast forward to present day and you have one of the finest MCs to ever grace the planet, hands-down.

Nas can be considered the best MC of our day. Some may
argue, but what is certain is the stronghold he has on the scene.
Even when he's quiet, opponents fear his silent roar. Browse his
releases to get a sense of the value that Nas bring to hip-hop and
you'll be entranced. He's crafty, lyrical, musical, awe-inspiring and
fierce. While during his lyrical rivalry with fellow New York MC,
Jay-Z some questioned his crown, his battle track, "Ether" annihilated
naysayers and solidified his place at the top. Even when 50 Cent
tried to rile him on his recent track "Piggy Bank," Nas told the press
that 50 had a long way to go to get a response from him, positioning
himself as a veteran against a rookie. Like, Whoa.
