UGO's Bands on Demand - Discharge

Discharge

Formed in England in 1977, Discharge would become one of the most influential Heavy Metal/Punk bands in rock history, directly inspiring Metallica. Founded by Terry "Tezz" Roberts and his twin brother Tony, the group embodied hardcore punk at its finest, and would score a number of hits in the early 80s before breaking up for several years at a time, just returning for occasional comeback albums. The band currently play a few gigs a year and released an EP of new material entitled Beginning of the End in 2006.

Why We Like 'Em

Discharge is like what you might have seen had The Clash been quite a bit angrier. Their albums are consistent hits and deliver excellent tracks such as the furious "Fight Back" and "Decontrol," as well as extensive club hits. But throughout their sporadic career they've managed to maintain high levels of quality songwriting throughout and have so far never seriously faltered, although their extended leaves of absence tend to frustrate fans. If you're up for some quality British punk, Discharge is well worth a listen-just don't get your hopes up for new material on a consistent basis.
