The 81st Academy Awards are coming up this weekend, and producers promise the ceremony will be different; we talk with the show's writers to find out what's in store.
Hollywood's favorite evening--the Academy Awards--is just around the corner, and this year producers are going to try something different. Instead of the standard host telling jokes and presenters reading off winners, the ceremony is getting a major overhaul. We talked with the show's writers, famed comedy writer Bruce Vilanch and former Men in Trees showrunner Jenny Bicks, to get an idea of what will go down this Sunday.

The redheaded talk-show host has given us some great late-night characters and bits; on his last night in the 12:30 a.m. slot, here are our favorites.
An era ends tonight...an era of defecating ducks, a bear beating off, and drummers doing drummers. Conan O'Brien tapes his final Late Night with Conan O'Brien tonight, and will graduate to the 11:30 p.m. slot as the replacement for Jay Leno later this summer.

Quirky superhero show won't be picked up for second season by ABC Family; finale episode coming via graphic novel, DVD date also announced.
Some power users here at TV.com are going to be really disappointed. ABC Family's The Middleman, a consistent favorite of some of TV.com's most dedicated users, will not be picked up for a second season. In a press release sent out by ABC Family, the network revealed that the series finale will be made into a graphic novel, dooming the television series.

Blonde starlet grabs role in Five Killers movie with Ashton Kutcher; will she leave Grey's Anatomy?
For some time now, rumors have been all over the place saying that Katherine Heigl is through being a television star and is ready to pursue a film career. She's also been a major part of the off-screen drama on Grey's Anatomy and may be asking to get out of her contract.

Michael Ian Black, Michael Showalter doing show-within-a-show show for Comedy Central.
Cult comics Michael Ian Black and Michael Showalter are giving television another shot. The duo's latest project, dubbed Michael and Michael Have Issues, has been picked up to series by Comedy Central and is set to debut in July.

Rookie talk-show host will have A-list talent for debut week; Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Van Morrison also scheduled.
Someone is cashing in some serious favors over at NBC. Jimmy Fallon, former Saturday Night Live rubber-faced comic, begins his career as a late-night talk show host in early March, and if he wasn't nervous before he will be now. His first guest is one of Hollywood's greatest: Robert DeNiro.

America's favorite pastime (apologies to baseball) is getting into its playoffs, and last night on American Idol saw the reality competition select the first three finalists that will be vying for fame and fortune. And if our resident American Idol expert is correct, America got it right.

TBS' buddy comedy sets third-season premiere date for late March.
Those who watch enough television know that there is more to quality programming than what is just on major networks and premium cable. In fact, if one digs enough, one might just find that little-known gem that proves itself worthy enough of watching on a regular basis. One of those shows? TBS' My Boys.

Panels for It’s Always Sunny, True Blood, Dr. Horrible, Dollhouse, on schedule for annual TV fest.
Los Angeles' annual PaleyFest is quickly becoming one of the better chances for television fans to see their favorite stars up close in a casual setting. This year's lineup will be particularly of interest to die-hards, as several panels at the two-week-long event represent shows with a cult-like following.
