Everyone who has a little bit of rock in his body, has already heard of AC/DC. Recently the band from Australia made a worldwide comeback and their latest CD sold very well. Planning on gaining some more money, both them and Harmonix found it a good idea to release a music game about the band. Songs included are those of the ‘Live At Donington’ DVD, 18 in total. A strong total, it seems, but on second sight the whole is rather poor.

Rather poor as more than songs you don’t get in AC/DC Live. The creators of Rock Band didn’t even take the time to recreate the band members, or create new venues. Releasing this as a stand-alone game is thus quite strange. It rather seems to be a Track Pack that was upgraded from DLC to expansion to make as much money as possible. The game is available at a bugdetprice (some 32 euros on play.com, that’s less than 2 euros per song), though. The possibility to import songs in Rock Band or RB2 comes in handy for those who are fans and only want to expand their collection.

Luckily the audio quality of the songs is, like we are used to in the series, excellent. I’m not really an expert, but classics like ‘Highway to Hell’, ‘For Those About to Rock (We Salute You)’ and of course the legendaric ‘Thunderstruck’ sound very familiar and are those kind of songs I want to play with my friends! The music notes are on the right place and all instruments are fun, even the sometimes unpopular vocals. I am not sure whether everyone will replay the other songs, however. They are one by one worth it, but resemble each other a little bit.
If you buy this game thinking you are really adding a stand-alone game to your collection, you’ll be disappointed. If on the other hand you are an AC/DC fan or just want to add those songs to your Rock Band 2 game, the game is recommendable after all. It offers a lot of classics and one by one they sound excellent.

PRO

  • 18 good songs that sound excellent

CON

  • No more than that
