Abril is part of the daily life of millions of Brazilians

The Abril Group is one of Latin America's largest and most influential communications conglomerates, providing information, culture, education and entertainment to practically all segments of the Brazilian public, and operating in an integrated manner on a number of media platforms.

Based on the principles of integrity, quality, leadership and innovation, Abril was founded in 1950 by Victor Civita and today employs approximately 7,400 people. It is actively engaged in magazine and textbook publishing, online content and services, broadband Internet, database marketing and both segmented and pay-TV.

Editora Abril publishes some 300 periodical titles, and is the absolute leader in every market segment in which it operates. Its publications sell close to 164 million copies a year and reach a total of 22 million readers. Seven of the country's ten biggest magazines are published by Abril, led by Veja, Brazil's largest magazine and the world's best-selling weekly newsmagazine outside of the United States.

Abril is also the leader of the Brazilian textbook market with the publishing houses Ática and Scipione, which together have over 4,000 titles in their catalogues and produce as many as 37 million copies per year.

In 1990, Abril launched MTV, Brazil's first segmented TV, and was a pioneer in 1991 with the launch of TVA, the first pay-TV operation in the country. On the Internet, Abril has more than 70 sites and portals for its major titles, brands and content.

The Victor Civita Foundation, created in 1985 and committed to helping improve basic education in Brazil, gave a kick-start to Abril's social responsibility projects. With Nova Escola magazine, the Foundation reaches 1.5 million teachers in nearly every elementary school in the country each month.

Additionally, Abril allocates resources and the volunteer work and talent of its staff to a number of initiatives that promote citizenship, culture, health and environmental conservation.
