In this edition of the eZ Community Newsletter, we have an exciting variety of news and information to share. eZ Developer Day was held at the end of January in the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce's 18th century building, with more than 100 attendees sharing tips and experiences. eZ Publish 4.1.0alpha2 and eZ Publish 4.0.2 were recently released, and the roadmaps for both eZ Publish and eZ Components have been updated. This newsletter also includes a list of some interesting new contributions, as well as the regular Forum Watch and bug report summary.

The 7th annual eZ Conference, hosted by eZ Publish creator eZ Systems, promises to be as engaging and vibrant as ever. This Web Content Management & Digital Media conference is attended by hundreds of industry leaders and experts each year. It will be held outside of Norway for the first time, in the heart of Paris on June 25 and 26. All web professionals, including the entire eZ Ecosystem, are invited.

Łukasz Serwatka has been a Software Engineer at eZ for the past 4 years. He has been an active eZ community member throughout this time, often seen helping others in the forums and writing the regular eZ Community Newsletters. In this interview, we find out more about his work on some key eZ Publish initiatives and extensions. He also shares how he beats up his friends – in video games of course!

We are happy to announce the release of eZ Publish 4.0.2. This release contains about 150 new bug fixes and enhancements since the previous maintenance release.

We are pleased to announce the release of eZ Publish 4.1.0alpha2. With this release, around 59 bug fixes and enhancements have been incorporated. The extensions coupled to this release also have received updates (mainly eZ OE, eZ Flow).

Decision News Media, a Silver eZ Partner, is the publisher behind FoodNavigator.com, FoodNavigator-USA.com, and 16 other specialized news websites. It uses eZ Publish as the base for their Web properties. eZ interviewed Antoine Olgiati, Manager of Information Systems at Decision News Media, about the company, its websites, and how it managed to publish 18 eZ Publish sites in 7 months.

Welcome to the first eZ Community Newsletter of 2009! We wish you all the best for a great and safe 2009! In this edition, we take a look back at some interesting events from 2008. Also, the stable release of eZ Components 2008.2 was made available this week. Rounding out the newsletter is a summary of interesting forum topics from the past few weeks.

eZ Systems is happy to announce the release of eZ Components version 2008.2. This is the seventh major version of eZ Components, which is an enterprise-ready, general-purpose PHP library of over 40 components used independently or together for PHP application development.

We are pleased to announce the release of eZ Publish 4.1.0alpha1. The kernel carries a few important new features, around 80 new enhancements and 400 bug fixes (since 4.0.0). Together with this release, several extensions are available as well that enhance the useability of eZ Publish substantially.

Norway-based Netmaking AS provides full-service web solutions built with eZ Publish. Netmaking has been working with eZ Publish for almost 6 years and recently reached the highest eZ Partner level possible. Netmaking's CEO, Eirik Johansen, explains how it reached this milestone and why it has continued to use eZ Publish over the years.

Norwegian newspaper VG will be a main speaker at eZ Developer Day, a free event in Barcelona on January 29, 2009 that is open to the entire PHP community. VG's website is the most popular site in Norway. Erlend Mosland, CTO at VG, recently answered a few questions about the VG site and about its history in using Web technologies.

The book eZ Publish Advanced Content Management, written by Bergfrid Marie Skaara and eZ Crew member Peter Keung, is now available for purchase in PDF format for 15 Euro. The PDF version of the book is identical to the print version and is released by the eZ Press.
