About the Special Operations Warrior Foundation

The Special Operations Warrior Foundation was founded 28 years ago to provide support and assistance to the U. S. military's special operations community, which consist Army Special Forces (Green Berets), the Army's 75th Ranger Regiment, the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, Navy Small Boat Teams, Navy SEALs, Air Force Combat Controllers, Air Force rotary and fixed wing squadrons, and Marine Corps special operations personnel.

The Foundation's mission includes two major aspects in support of special operations personnel:

  1. If you are serving in the U.S. military special operations community, and you lose your lifein an operational mission or training accident, the Warrior Foundation will provide a full college education to your surviving children.
  2. If you are severely wounded while deployed, the Warrior Foundation will provide immediate financial assistance and support to ensure your loved ones are at your bedside for your recovery.

While the Foundation has been providing college educations for the past 28 years, it was in 2005 that the need to assist wounded warriors became another commitment from the Foundation. Although there are other charitable organizations that provide assistance to wounded personnel and their families, there was a clear need for an organization to provide immediate financial assistance, and that is where the SOWF stepped in.

The foundation provides families of special operations personnel hospitalized with severe wounds $2,000 to help with their immediate needs, such as travel, child care, food and lodging.

The foundation's I.R.S. Tax I.D. number is 52-1183585. The Combined Federal Campaign number is 11455.
