  Pictures of Actual Places: Oukashou

WARNING: The below article includes spoilers.

Mr Shinkai often get inspiration from actual places. In the location hunting he does before making, he takes pictures by digital camera to get raw material of background art.

My friend Kawasaki-san traced Mr Shinkai's tracks and took pictures of the actual places. Thanks for your co-opration, Kawasaki-san!

This is Sanguubashi Park in Shibuya Ward, Tokyo. In the first sequence of the film, Takaki and Akari went home from school along this slope.
In the film, there were huge number of cherry trees here, but the actual place has only a few.

Akari and Takaki ran down this slope. In the film, there was a railroad crossing at the foot of a slope. In the actual place, it is station front.

The railroad crossing appeared just before title back of Oukashou. Akari opened pink umbrella, and turned around in a circle at here.
In the actual place, many people are walking through here because National Olympics Memorial Youth Center is close to here.

Yoyogi Hachiman Shrine. Takaki and Akari passed the front of this shrine to go to hamburger restaurant on their way home.

Another pitcure of Yoyogi Hachiman Shrine.

Takaki and Akari went down this stairs talking about Anomalocaris.

Goutokuji station. Takaki started his trip from here to meet Akari again.

Musashi Urawa Station. Takaki waited for train transfer JR Saikyou Line to JR Utsunomiya Line.
Trivia: Mr Shinkai had been living around this station.

Akari called Takaki from this telephone booth.

In a train of JR Utsunomiya Line.

Nogi station. Takaki's train arrived here around 18:59 and stopped for a while.

Oyama Station signboard. Akari's town was in Iwafune on Ryomo Line.

Platform of Oyama Station. Takaki waited for transfer of trains, and lost his letter by accident in here.

Iwafune station signboard at platform. At first, takaki had planned to arrive at here on 18:45. However, his train arrived on 23:15.

This is NOT Iwafune Station's waiting room. This is a small station on JR Tsugaru line in Aomori Prefecture. Mr Shinkai might have visit here when he was making The Place Promised in Our Early Days and have taken a picture.
I guess he used the stocked picture for his next work.
The layout of the waiting room is a little different in the story.
The actual Iwafune station doesn't have station staffs, so no one call attention to go home.

In front of Iwafune Station. Takaki and Akari walked away this road, and the scene is used for poster and ticket.
