The Skinny: The St. Louis Rams and Steve Spagnuolo agreed Saturday on a four-year contract to make the New York Giants' defensive coordinator their coach. The team said in a release that Spagnuolo would be introduced at a news conference at 11 a.m. CT Monday. Jim Haslett was hired as an interim coach on Sept. 9, 2008.  More...

Lane Kiffin (Fired on 9/30/08) Tom Cable (Hired as interim coach on 9/30/08)
The Skinny: The Oakland Raiders have promoted offensive line coach Tom Cable to interim head coach. Owner Al Davis says Cable will replace Lane Kiffin, who was fired earlier Tuesday just four games into his second season. Cable, 43, is regarded as one of the top offensive line coaches in the game, and worked with successful units in Atlanta and Oakland. He spent four years as a college head coach at Idaho, and was also an assistant at UCLA, California and Colorado.  More...

San Francisco 49ers
Mike Nolan (Fired on 10/20/08) Mike Singletary (Hired as interim coach on 10/20/08 and rewarded with a four-year contract on 12/29/08.)
The Skinny: After four straight losses culminating in Sunday's 29-17 loss to the New York Giants, the 49ers replaced Nolan with assistant head coach Mike Singletary. The former Hall of Fame linebacker in Chicago will take over for the rest of the season, general manager Scot McCloughan said. Instead of delaying a decision on Nolan's fate until the 49ers' bye week following Sunday's home game against Seattle, McCloughan and owners John and Jed York suddenly couldn't wait another day.  More...

Romeo Crennel (Fired on 12/29/08) Eric Mangini (Hired on 1/7/09)
The Skinny: Eric Mangini, fired by the New York Jets after their season finished with a December nosedive, took over the rebuilding Browns on Thursday, completing a personal and professional career circle that started with him running errands in the early 1990s as an eager underling for then-Cleveland coach Bill Belichick. The 37-year-old Mangini now has his dream job, the one he had a tough time convincing his mom was remotely possible when he came to Cleveland 14 years ago.  More...

Detroit Lions
Rod Marinelli (Fired on 12/29/08) Jim Schwartz (Hired on 1/15/09)
The Skinny: The Detroit Lions, the NFL's first 0-16 team, agreed Thursday on a four-year deal with Schwartz to make him their next coach. The former Tennessee Titans defensive coordinator will be introduced at a Friday news conference at Ford Field, where Detroit lost its home games last year by an average of 21.4 points to break another dubious league record.  More...

N.Y. Jets
Eric Mangini (Fired on 12/29/08) Rex Ryan (Hired on 1/19/09)
The Skinny: The Baltimore Ravens' defensive coordinator was hired Monday as New York's coach, three weeks after the Jets fired Eric Mangini following a late-season collapse. It became apparent the 46-year-old Ryan was at the top of the Jets' list of candidates when several other teams filled their coaching vacancies and New York's remained open. The Jets needed Baltimore's season to end -- which happened Sunday with a 23-14 loss at Pittsburgh in the AFC championship game -- before offering him the job.  More...

Mike Shanahan (Fired on 12/30/08) Josh McDaniels (Hired on 1/11/09)
The Skinny: Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels has agreed to become the Broncos' next coach, team spokesman Patrick Smyth said Sunday night. McDaniels is a rising star who has spent his entire eight-year NFL coaching career in New England, where he worked his way up from personnel assistant in the scouting department to offensive coordinator for Bill Belichick.  More...

Indianapolis Colts
Denver Broncos
Tony Dungy (Retired on 1/12/09) Jim Caldwell (Promoted on 1/13/09)
The Skinny: With tears in his eyes and his voice cracking, Tony Dungy said goodbye to the Indianapolis Colts and the NFL, then, in typical Dungy fashion, looked optimistically toward life's next challenges. For the Colts and their fans, that means chasing another Super Bowl title under Dungy's successor, Jim Caldwell. For Dungy, it means spending more meaningful time with his family and on volunteer work.  More...

Jon Gruden (Fired on 1/16/09) Raheem Morris (Promoted on 1/17/09)
The Skinny: A day after abruptly firing Super Bowl winner Jon Gruden, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers introduced Raheem Morris as their new coach Saturday. Morris inherits a team that won three division titles under his predecessor but hasn't won a playoff game since capturing the franchise's only NFL title in January 2003.   More...

Herm Edwards (Fired on 1/23/09) TBD
The Skinny: Herm Edwards has been fired as coach of the Kansas City Chiefs. Edwards led the team during its worst two-year span in team history, has been fired, going 6-26. He goes out with a three-year regular-season record of 15-33 and with one year remaining on a four-year, $12 million contract.   More...
