Kurt Warner
Warner completed 31 of 43 passes for 377 yards and three touchdowns with one costly interception in the Cardinals' Super Bowl loss to Pittsburgh on Sunday. The 31 completions were one shy of New England quarterback Tom Brady's Super Bowl record and tied Buffalo's Jim Kelly for second. Warner, who is pondering retirement, now holds the top three passing yard marks for a Super Bowl, previously throwing for 414 yards in 2000 against Tennessee and 365 yards against New England in 2002 while with the St. Louis Rams.
Larry Fitzgerald
In Sunday's Super Bowl loss, Fitzgerald caught six passes for 115 yards _ in the fourth quarter _ after just one catch for 12 yards in the first three. Fitzgerald caught a pair of stellar TD passes, including a 64-yard scoring pass from Kurt Warner that gave Arizona its only lead of the game.
Santonio Holmes
Holmes, who overcame his gritty childhood in rural south Florida, made a brilliant catch with 35 seconds left to give the Pittsburgh Steelers their record sixth Super Bowl title, a 27-23 victory over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday night. Holmes took home Super Bowl MVP honors after making nine catches for 131 yards, four of them on the winning 78-yard drive.
James Harrison
Harrison, the NFL's defensive player of the year, returned an interception 100 yards for a touchdown on the final play of the first half in Sunday's Super Bowl. The longest play in Super Bowl history gave the Steelers a 17-7 lead heading to the locker room.
Marlon Byrd
The Rangers signed Byrd to a $3.06 million, one-year deal on Friday. The team said the deal included a donation by Byrd to the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation. The 31-year-old outfielder batted .298 with 10 home runs and 53 RBIs in 122 games last season. He also had career highs in walks (46), slugging percentage (.462) and on-base percentage. Byrd's 10 homers and 28 doubles also matched a career best.
Jason Varitek
The Red Sox and Varitek reached a preliminary agreement Friday on a $5 million, one-year contract, two people familiar with the talks said. The deal contains player and team options that allow him to earn $8 million to $10 million over two seasons, the people said, speaking on condition of anonymity because the agreement was not yet final. Known for his handling of pitchers, the switch-hitter is coming off his worst season at the plate with 13 homers and 43 RBIs in 131 games. After making the AL All-Star team in 2003 and 2005, he batted .238 in 2006 and .255 in 2007.
Brian Bruney
Bruney and the New York Yankees agreed Friday to a $1.25 million, one-year contract, settling the team's last salary arbitration case. The deal raised New York's projected opening-day payroll just above $198 million for 18 players with agreements. The Yankees still must negotiate with Joba Chamberlain, Phil Hughes and others who didn't have enough service time to be eligible for arbitration. Bruney, projected to be the Yankees' primary setup reliever for Mariano Rivera, held opponents to a .153 batting average, the fifth-lowest in the major leagues among pitchers with 30 or more innings.
Randy Messenger
Messenger agreed Friday to a minor league contract with the Seattle Mariners, two days after he was waived off the major league roster to clear a roster spot. Seattle removed him from the big league roster after acquiring infielder Ronny Cedeno and left-hander Garrett Olson from the Cubs in a deal that sent reliever Aaron Heilman to Chicago.

Despite missing 22 games with ankle problems, Martin has been one of the NBA's top scorers, averaging 24.4 points. Playing in 17 straight contests, the Kings guard has scored 26.6 points and hit 44.9 percent of his 3-point shots (44-for-98).

Since scoring a career-high 22 points on Jan. 18 against Phoenix, Graham, averaging a career-best 7.1 points, has reached double figures in four of the past eight games.
Tim Connolly
Connolly scored the Sabres' 2-0 win at Phoenix on Saturday. Connolly has four goals and two assists during a three-game point streak, and has seven goals and two assists over his last six games. He has only appeared in 16 games this season, due to missing 24 with a rib injury.
Chris Mason
Mason made 36 saves to lead the Blues past the visiting Flyers, 4-0 on Saturday. It was Mason's 15th career shutout, and his third of the season. Two of those performances have come over the last four games - a span in which he is 3-1-0 with a 1.30 goals-against average and a .955 save percentage. He went 0-8-1 with a 3.92 GAA in the 10 games that preceded his current run.
