  • Looking for Crotch Shots in Don King Boxing

I am Andrew Golota. I'm stalking the ring, chasing down my injured opponent and looking to deliver a finishing blow, preferably one below the belt. After all, I'm playing as the renowned lord of the low blow; the boss of beanbag blasts; the king of crotch shots. It seems only fitting that I tryplay to my boxer's strengthsasI'm checking out a work-in-progress build of Don King Boxing for the Nintendo Wii. The game, a follow-up of sorts to the poorly received Don King Presents: Prizefighter for the Xbox 360 looks to be taking the Wii Fit approach to the sweet science, with balance board support and a control setup that will give you a workout if you let it. Still, despite playing with a boxer that's known for his manic fixation on crotch shots, I am--maddeningly--unable to punch a single gonad. Perhaps they haven't included Golota's "style" in this version of the game, so it's time to change things up.

  • MLB 2K9: Videos, Screens, and Team Ratings

Today's the big media day for MLB 2K9, as the curtain has been lifted on video footage. We've published footage from the first inning of three games:

St. Louis Cardinals at Chicago Cubs

Boston Red Sox at New York Yankees

Washington Nationals at Kansas City Royals

Earlier in the week, I asked for screenshot requests for the game and, below, you'll find lots of new screens of the game honoring those requests, including looks at Citi Field, New Yankee Stadium, and a bunch of close-up shots of players in action. If you want to seea specific screen below

Finally, I've also included team ratings for all the teams in the game, rated across six categories: Overall, Contact, Power, Speed, Pitching, and Defense.

  • Thursday Notes: MLB, Football Manager, UFC and a Glimpse at NCAA 10

I've spent the majority of the week playing two games: MLB 2K9 and Football Manager Live. With MLB I'm becoming increasingly concerned about the ineffectiveness of my pitching at the higher difficulty levels. I understand that pitching to a guy like Albert Pujols (who rates 100 overall in the game) is a dangerous prospect, but he's been quite literally shelling me during every at bat. I'm not quite sure if its my ability to deal with the new pitching controls, the fact that my catcher is calling bad pitches, or Pujols' inflated ratings. Or some combination thereof. Nonetheless, it's become frustrating--especially when I sim a game and watch Pujols go hitless the entire game…

With Football Manager Live, it's been an enjoyable uphill battle trying to figure out just what the heck this game is all about. I dabbled in the old Championship Manager series and this game is a fascinating and modern take on the time-honored management sim, only online, with hundreds of other like-minded fans. Justin Calvert and I have been playing this religiously and I'm enjoying it a lot. If you've got even a passing interest in management-type games, give this one a look. I hope to write more about the game in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, if you're playingFML now, let me know and we can compare notes…
