Just a warning. The January 20 podcast may be up a little late since we had MLK day off and we're recording, editing, and posting all on the same day this week.

Praising MGS4 is not an act of kindness or generosity. It is the minimum someone can do about such masterpiece. Other sites dedicated entire podcasts and more than 40 minutes of praising. So what? Does it change the fact that gamespot is a Sony-hate site? Did you check the comparison of multiplatform games they made recently? Those where the PS3 isn't even configured correctly, with RGB configuration Limited (instead of Full) and superwhite option turned Off, in order for it to look crappier and darker than the 360? This site is all about Microsoft, with 3rl and all. Even before MGS4 was released I recall Metal Gear bashing and calling it ridiculous. The fact is that the game was so AWESOME and even fanboys can't deny it.

Anyway, the FACT remains that this editing happened because it wasn't something unimportant or minor. HE NEEDED to make sure everybody listening to it would listen to his apologies. The only question is why would that be? See. I gave my version of why that is, now just answer the question or shut up.

recognizing that something is a good game and naming it game of the year are definitely not the same thing. How many gaming websites have named MGS4 game of the year? Gamespot is the only one that has given it the top spot of those that I have seen. In addition you're ignoring that Tom Mc Shea spent forty minutes -- forty! -- on the last podcast praising MGS4, as well as naming it his personal number-one game of the year. How many sites that are in your opinion unbiased did that for MGS4 and by extension the playstation 3?
From the comments section, you are obviously one of the few people, if not the only person, here who thinks that his podcast insert was a big deal.
How about this for connecting the dots, everybody saw that John McCain was white, and he didn't win the election. Therefore, through the magic of almost totally unrelated things, John McCain lost because he was white.

" why would MGS4, a playstation 3 exclusive game, have won so many awards for gamespot's "best of 2008"."

Stop rationalizing it. MGS4 was indeed the best game of 2008 and it is a masterpiece in gaming, so recognizing it was not a "favor" from gamespot's part. If they pretended it was no big deal, then whatever is left from their credibility since Gerstmanngate would be definitely destroyed.

Focus on the facts. The editing in this podcast was hillarious because it looked as something super-important. He needed to make sure that everybody listening to it would listen to his apologies. Why? If it is a simple mistake he could have left a comment entry, a blog entry or waited for the next podcast to clarify things, etc. It was not something unimportant or minor. Now look at layoffs and recession, connect the dots...

    Posted Jan 18, 2009 3:53 pm PT

another_bee, if gamespot is so geared towards the xbox360 and so against the playstation 3, why would MGS4, a playstation 3 exclusive game, have won so many awards for gamespot's "best of 2008". Specifically, if Tom Mc Shea was required to say that the 360 was the best in order to keep his job, why not instead of inserting something to rectify a two-minute exchange, he not air the nearly forty-minute segment on the last podcast where all that was done was praise MGS4? Try to think about things before you make blatantly false accusations.

Zedeyeenn, Jon Miller doesn't work at GameSpot anymore, sadly. And another_bee, I'm gonna be blunt with you, shut up. Nobody wants to hear your mindless pointless ranting. I don't believe he made an edit to keep his job, I believe he made and edit, because he felt like he made a mistake. All that I can wish now is that GameSpot will ban your ass, because you just don't know when to stop. And another thing, after all of those lay-offs last year at GameSpot; Tom Mc Shea was hired that year...doesn't that mean anything to you that he wasn't laid off too? Maybe that just reflects the quality of his work/opinions.

He could have even waited for the next podcast to rectify himself. If he felt the need to edit this one, then it can't be something unimportant.
