In a normal game of pachinko, you control the speed of falling balls and try to get them into cups that award you points. In Planet Pachinko, your character is inside of a giant pachinko machine and the balls explode when they hit you. If they fall into cups, they become enemies that attack you. You are awarded points (in the form of the interstellar currency called "space jelly") when you destroy the balls.
