I was just curious cause i was reading about this American GK who plays for a Norwegian football club and how he was training with Norwegian SF, which suprised me. I thought they were too secretive about that. Anyway i was wondering about the special forces that Sweden has but also throughout all of the Nordic region. Is there alot of books on it or media attention payed to their existence? I believe some have gone to Kosovo or Afghanistan, but i'm not sure. But I just thought i would ask you guys opinion and maybe some natives might chime in.

A friend of mine was a kustjägare, which is like a Navy SEAL for Sweden.

Here are some pictures.

The "Marine Corps of Sweden" would be the Amfibieregementet.

http://www.mil.se/sv/I-Sverige...

The elite parachute units are called fallskärmsjägare:

Not to be left out, the Swedish flygvapnet have their flybasjägare. This elite group's job is to defend airbases from attack.

Pretty much anything with "jägare" behind it is considered elite.

Hope this helps!

Thanks mate. Ah ha, cool. Have they been deployed alot? What's the view of them in the media or people you think? I imagine they are quite small but very elite.

Quite frankly, you don't hear a lot about them. I'd say 90% of Swedes don't care, and if they did find out, they'd call them "baby killers." There is almost no public support for troops coming home. No parades, no yellow ribbons, no fundraisers, no post package drives. How many towns in Sweden would have its citizens line up on the streets and wave flags should a fallen soldier return? It's not like in America, and that's actually a good thing. Nobody should have to go through that.. The hardest thing for me is to look the families in the eyes and thank them for their son or daughters' sacrifice.

The Swedish government is slow to catch on to the entire PTSD too. There's very little support for the troops coming home to Svealand and suffering from mental trauma. At least here in America there's plenty of veterans groups to talk to, but in Sweden there are not a lot of veterans groups. The Swedish government pretty much handles that, and quietly.

Basically Swedes don't want to know that they have troops abroad, unless they are some UN blue helmets on Cyprus or something cushy as that.

Well, the current Swedish government defines Defence as a metal post with a bow and arrow. This is why they are called "Special" (yes, in the retarted sense) Forces whose fancy name is the Nordic Battle Group.

As opposed to the Navy SEAL logo which is an eagle clutching a trident and flintlock pistol. Laughing

My favorite was always the Arctic Rangers, or Lapplands jägarregemente. Unfortunately they were disbanded in 2000. But they had a really cool logo of a wolf with a crown and rifles. Nice varg, nice varg!

It's a shame. They should get more respect which they do deserve.
