Locals should market themselves
The Imperial Valley Press should advertise or create a column on all the local bands that are available, just like they did with Nine Lives. It’s only fair that everyone get the same free advertisement. — Entertainer, Calipatria

Any egg hunts in Valley?
I am trying to find where if any Easter egg hunts are happening this weekend. I don’t know where to take my kids. In the past there was a big hunt at Bucklin Park, but I know with all the budget issues, not many cities or agencies are doing much. — Easter Bunny Lover, El Centro

Reader requests stop signs
I live on Ross Avenue between Eighth Street and Imperial Avenue. The street is extremely congested between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. and cars travel well over the 35 mph sign posted on both ends. This morning, there was the third accident I know of this year alone where a van rear-ended a vehicle that was stopped while waiting for a car ahead of him to make a turn.

More luxury apartments?
I was wondering about the apartments being built on Euclid Avenue and Barbara Worth Drive in El Centro. Are they luxury apartments? Why do they keep building these luxury apartments when the unemployment rates here in the Imperial Valley are the highest in the nation? I feel they should make more low-income apartments for those struggling with the economy. — Struggling, El Centro

Officers not following the law?
OK, so I know they passed a new law of not being able to talk on your cell phone while driving, which I think is great. But what about those in law enforcers? I think officers, more than anyone else, should be providing a good example of not using their cell phones while driving. Do they think that just because they are officers they can do that? I think they should get tickets like everybody else. — Signed, Concerned Citizen

Park looks pretty bad
I went to Bucklin Park in El Centro over the weekend and I thought that I was in Desert Storm. What happened? There is more dirt than grass. Even the grass areas look pretty bad.

Question asked to wrong person
The question regarding the tax increase in Heber Meadows subdivision when the new school is built was asked to the wrong person. That question should have been for the Heber Public Utilities District, not Mr. Jaime Silva — Heber Resident

Who gets the free food?
For two Fridays a month the Calexico Guadalupe Shelter gives away free food to the needy people of Calexico. What is the criteria that determines who gets the food? Most of the cars that park to receive the food are from Mexicali. Why do some persons walk out of there with two or three items and others walk out of there with two or three boxes? I have a feeling that the boxes are going to Mexicali. — Wanting Answers, Calexico

Employee fired for stealing?
An employee of House of Hope, a shelter run by Catholic Charities, was fired for stealing years’ and years’ worth of donations, i.e., diapers, toys, food donated from different organizations in the Valley. Why has this not been made public? There is someone from the Senior Nutrition also involved. Why is it being kept a secret? This is grand theft.

No Battle of the Badges in April?
Why isn’t the Brawley Police Department having Battle of the Badges? This has been going on for 12 years. Rumor is October is the new date, but I don’t think it will happen. It’s like moving the fair to July; makes no sense. Maybe Brawley needs Chris Eaton back to keep it going, or Brawley just might lose it to another organization. — Concerned, Brawley
