Publisher's description of AVG Anti-Virus
This antivirus program for your home or office computer is easy on system resources and simple to install and use. The fully automated update process will keep your computer protected at all times. Components include AVG Email Scanner, which checks your incoming and outgoing e-mail for viruses; AVG Resident Shield, which checks for viruses as files are opened, executed, and saved and will prevent you from opening or running an infected file; and AVG Virus Vault, a place where infected files are isolated so they cannot cause damage to your system.
Version 8.0.87 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.

- "Full suite of protection"
Though not as well-known as some competitors, this antivirus program offers rock-solid protection. AVG Anti-Virus Professional provides all the necessities, including a tool for scanning your hard drive and e-mail, as well as a real-time shield to prevent infections.
You'll find a full-blown scheduling utility for automating tasks and checking for new definitions as often as you'd like. Other perks found in this Pro version include technical support and the ability to run on multiple operating systems. Should a virus create serious system problems, AVG creates a rescue disk to scan your computer in MS-DOS mode.
The program doesn't tax your system when scanning or when running in the background, and it always proved effective in our tests. The interface can't be described as beautiful, yet it is mostly simple to navigate.
Though the free version of this program will suffice for average folks, those who demand more control should certainly consider AVG Anti-Virus Professional.

"Good But With False Positives."
Pros: The interface was nice. It works averagely good.
Cons: Agreed with some people here, I finally realised that the new versions of AVG aren't any good. But about system resources, it's not a problem to me. The new version of AVG has a lot of false positives which the previous version doesn't. I don't think AVG 8.0 is an ideal antivirus for you to rely on, but perhaps the free version is okay for you to use.

"Disappointed with the latest version..."
Pros: To be perfectly frank there are a number of Antivirus solutions that are at least as good and in some peoples views better tahn AVG including Esset Nod 32, Avast and Avira to name but a few...
Cons: 1.) I find that it is heavy on resources on my computer compared to version 7 which I liked very much.
2.) I have and had a few compatability issues with version 8 and different programs on my computer which are currently not resolved. I found version 7 to be more stable.
3.) I have found that AVG support is a lot slower to respond to emails re my problems then they were in the past. For that reason I won't be renewing my contract when it expires later this year.

Version: AVG Anti-Virus 8.0.87
Pros: AVG provides adequate protection for most internet users with a clean, simple interface that has the necessary features and frequent updates. While no anti-virus product protects against user stupidity, a reasonable amount of common sense combined with this product, even the free version, will suffice for your computer anti-virus needs.
Cons: The email scanner requires a bit of computer knowledge to properly install, which may be a bit of a disadvantage to the less than tech savvy crowd.
