This freeware game is available from www.ambrosine.com. It’s a nice little game closer to The 7th Guest school of games than the point and click LucasArts type. You stand to inherit one million dollars if you can find ten gems hidden in a castle. The graphics are crisp and clean but not photorealistic. There is a bare minimum of sound and no interaction at all. All puzzles are inventory based but the game adds a twist-some items need to be manipulated before they can be used. The game can be completed in about an hour or two. It is not for this reason that I recommend it, but just for the quality of the graphics. It makes a nice diversion from more in-depth games. I hope they continue to develop more games.
Bridge
Take the rope from the tree. Try to take the branch-you can’t because
you need a tool of some kind. Cross the bridge.
Courtyard
A fountain sits in the middle of the courtyard. Take the shovel. Exit right.
Garden
Use the shovel to dig up the garden. Get the unearthed package. Inside you
find a gem and a rubberband. Take them. (GEMS=1). Return to the courtyard.
Courtyard
Exit left.
Stairs
A suit of armor sits at the bottom of some stairs. Get the catgut (bow)
at its feet. Go up the stairs.
Tower
Get the wrench. Attach the rope to the ring. Climb down to the ledge.
Ledge
Get the gem. (GEMS=2). Return to the fountain.
Courtyard
Go straight ahead.
Entrance Hall
A griffin family crest sits on the left. A blue flag with a bulge in it
is directly across from it. Continue straight ahead.
Foyer
A chandelier hangs from the ceiling. Some stairs lead up. Exit left.
Banquet Hall
Take the sword from the wall. Exit left.
Kitchen
Take the butterknife from the shelf and the oil from the trashcan. Inspect
the mousehole in the bottom of the stove. Exit down.
Cellar
Take the ax. Use the rubberband on the pipe. Use the wrench to switch on
the water. Return to the fountain.
Courtyard
Take the gem from the fountain. (GEMS=3). Return to the bridge.
Bridge
Use the ax to cut down the branch. Return to the foyer.
Foyer
Exit right.
Library
Get the ladder. Search the chair to find a key under a cushion. Go up to
get a gem from the shelf. (GEMS=4). Return to the foyer.
Foyer
Go up the stairs.
Upstairs Hall
Exit left.
Boy’s Room
Get the violin under the bed. Return to the upstairs hall.
Upstairs Hall
Use the sword to pry the loose floorboard up. Use the ladder in the space.
Go down.
Alcove
Get the gem. (GEMS=5). Return to the upstairs hall.
Upstairs Hall
Go straight ahead.
Master Bedroom
Search the pillow to find a feather. Take it. Use the butterknife on the
painting to reveal a secret hiding place. Take the box. Use the key with
the box. Take the gem inside. (GEMS=6). String the violin with the catgut.
Return to the entrance hall.
Entrance Hall
Use the feather on the griffin. A fireball bursts from the griffin enveloping
the flag opposite. Take the revealed gem. (GEMS=7). Go to the stairs.
Stairs
Use the oil with the armor. Take the gem that falls out. (GEMS=8). Go to
the main foyer.
Foyer
Play the violin. The cacophony causes a gem to fall from the chandelier.
Take it. (GEMS=9). Return to the upstairs hall.
Upstairs Hall
Exit right.
Girl’s Room
Get the gum. Chew it up. Attach the gum to the branch. Return to the kitchen.
Kitchen
Use the branch in the hole at the bottom of the stove. You get the final
gem. (GEMS=10). Return to the master bedroom.
Master Bedroom
Put the gems in the locked box. CONGRATULATIONS, you have just inherited
one million smackeroos.
