T'alvi
(Tyler Dykstra (independent developer), 2002)
Walkthrough

For anyone who has “Myst” a certain style of game, they will be pleased to find out about T’alvi. This free game, created with the AdventureMaker software used in Nacah and its sequel, Derek even uses the well-known transport music from Myst! It’s an extremely short game but is worth a look even just to reminisce about the first time you tried Myst. Graphics are lovingly made and may even be better than the original Myst. Sound is sparse and consists mainly of background effects. The game has a single character in it, a boy, who plays a similar role to Atrus in the original. He acts well but is a little hard to hear (just like the transmissions from Atrus’ sons). T’alvi plays as almost a lost chapter to the Myst saga, complete with a journal about the creation of the worlds a la Myst. There are a few new books and worlds to accompany them. I assume the boy is the author so I am doubly impressed at the standard of the final product. My one disappointment in this game is that is so short. The game is downloadable in five parts and is about 37 MB in size.

Prolog
The game begins in an attic full of boxes. Get the book on top of the box. Open it. Click on the image and the attic fades…

Island Age
As you arrive in front of a shack, a spectral figure is seen in the distance but disappears. The gangway in front of you is incomplete making access impossible. Turn left. Turn the wheel. The gangway moves to span the gap. Follow the gangway all the way to the end, down some stairs and up to a switch that diverts steam to the shack. Turn the switch so that it points to the right. Return along the gangway to the shack. Before entering the shack, turn left. Move the steam switch so that it points to the right as well. Return to the shack and enter. Turn right on entry. Read the book on the table to learn about steam power and the Harvest Age. Back away and return left. Pull the switch. The bed rises revealing a chamber with a button. Go in and push the button. The floor descends to an underground passage.

Follow the cave to a switch. Pull the switch. Go across the newly repaired gangway. At the intersection, ignore left and right walkways and continue up the stairs. Go up to the podium. Examine the book on the podium. When the books opens, you view a transmission from a boy trapped. He asks you to help him by bringing him the lizard from the cage. After the transmission, return to the intersection. Turn left and continue along until you reach the end of the gangway. Turn left. Walk up to a cage. Note the lizard in the cage. Get the lizard by clicking on it and return to the book on the podium. Place the lizard on the open book. The boy is freed. He appears, thanking you, leaving you as the world collapses around you. The world turns black…

EXTRA FUN:
Harvest Age
Although extraneous to completing the game, enjoy a trip to the Harvest age through the book below the podium. It appeared to me that this was going to play a part in a larger story originally but for some reason was omitted from the final story.
