Overview/Strategies
King Dedede has the unique position of being a heavy character with a flight ability.
Like most heavy characters his attacks are slow but powerful. His hits don't quite have the power of some of the other heavy characters in the game. When playing against other heavy characters it's best to take advantage of Dedede's superior aerial abilities. When playing against lighter characters use Dedede's powerful attacks to pound them into submission.

Pros
- Can jump five times midair
- Projectiles are almost completely unreflectable
- Runs at a decent speed
- Very heavy, so hits won't knock him back too far
- Attacks are strong and have considerable knockback
Cons
- Very slow movement
- Attacks are quite laggy
- Large target for opponents to hit
- Less than stellar recovery move
- Opponents can combo him rather easily
Special Notes
- King Dedede is available from the start of the game.
Move List
NOTE: All moves are written as if character is facing right; swap Left/Right directions if facing left. The name of the move is followed by the average maximum percentage of damage that move can inflict per strike. This percentage can change with varying proximity to an opponent, and lowers with each consecutive use of the same move.
A attacks
- Standard A attack: Hammer swing 6%
- A while running: hammer twirl 6%
- A while in the air: Drop kick, used against opponents on the ground 7%
Special Moves
These are performed with the B button.
- Standard Special Move: Inhale 11% damage
- press b once to inhale your opponent, and again to spit them out
- Side Special Move: Waddle Dee Toss
- This move tosses a creature toward your opponent. A direct hit will do 5% damage. The creature will then walk in that same direction and use an electrical attack against any opponent it encounters. This attack can do up to 27% damage.
- Up Special Move: Super Dedede Jump
- This is a high jump that does no damage, it is a recovery move.
- Down Special Move: Jet Hammer 11% damage
Grabs
Grab your opponent using the Z button, then press a direction on the left analog stick to perform the following moves:
- Left or Right: golf swing 12%
- Up: toss 10%
- Down: stomp, 8%
Smash Attacks
Smash moves are performed with the right analog stick, or by pressing A and using the left stick.
- Up Smash: hammer upswing 15%
- Down Smash: 360 degree hammer swing
- Left/Right: : hammer smash 25%
- Final Smash: Waddle Dee Army- Waddle Dees swarm around, but not just normal Waddle Dees...they're faster and stronger, making them a big threat when swarming at you.
