Have Any Burning Questions About Fringe?

I'm going to be speaking to the producers of Fringe today. Now that you've seen the highly anticipated pilot, do you have any burning questions? Here are a few I came up with; please leave yours in the comments section. — Mickey O'Connor

1. What's up with those symbols (leaf, frog, etc.) that appear at the commercial breaks? Are they some kind of puzzle that we're supposed to "figure out"?

2. Why was Walter Bishop institutionalized in the first place? Sure, he's eccentric, but most of the time he seems perfectly lucid.

3. Why do they have a cow in the lab? I know they said something about similar DNA, but why not a monkey or rats like they usually have in a lab?

4. Who do you think should play William Bell, CEO of Massive Dynamics?

5. How did they film that scene with Blair Brown's cool robot arm?

6. Similarly, is the Massive Dynamics headquarters a real building?

7. Who did those cool title cards ("Essex County, Massachusetts", etc.) — are they by any chance by the same people who did Panic Room's opening credits? Or did J.J. do them?

8. What did they use to make Mark Valley's skin look translucent?

9. While we're on the subject, it appears that Mark is a cast regular. Is he dead, alive, something else (zombie? YES, PLEASE!), or does it even matter?

10. Do planes really land themselves at Logan Airport?

11. How often will Lance Reddick appear, and has his casting on Fringe changed his role on Lost at all?

12. Will Olivia Dunham ever crack a smile? (See Anna Torv's answer to the same question here.)

Will the character of Olivia be better-defined in future episodes?

I didn't care for Oliva at first, but she grew on me. Kooky Bishop was good casting, loved him. Lance was good to see - is he a reg? Blair Brown was the BEST - she stole the show! Bishop's son was rather meh. He was the only character I didn't like. I know TPTB want to romance him with Oliva but I hope they don't go that way - maybe if they replace him. He didn't do anything for me and I don't even remember his name. *shrug*

All the hype about commercials was awful. I timed it - every 5 minutes at one point! Why don't they show a block of 15-20 minutes of the episode, then a longer commercial break? AFter awhile I don't even care about what I'm watching anymore due to all the breaks.

Mickey, I also wondered who they'd get to play William Bell.

Perhaps Malcolm McDowell or William Devane?

No major questions, just wanted to say how much I enjoyed last night's episode. It's so good to see Joshua Jackson on television again - he was perfect in that role. Anna Torv was very good too. The whole skin thing freaked me out - too disgusting.

Thanks for opportunity.

My questions:

Why is there some other building for Massive Dynamics than in preair pilot?

How important role will Broyles have this season?

How many viewers do you expect to be watching Fringe this season?

Why did J. J. cast Joshua Jackson? He's so wrong for this part! (It's like he's channeling DiCaprio's character from Catch Me If You Can.) Anna Torv's not so hot, either. (Jennifer Affleck anyone?)

Ok, here's a more serious question. When will Greg Grunberg show up? Doesn't J. J. usually put him in every series because he's a good luck charm? :)

No questions. Just that I liked the show a lot, waited excitedly for it to get here and wasn't disappointed. Absolutely adored those 3-D type signs saying where they were (locations)! How cool was that! Hope they do more. Was I mistaken or was there a faux commercial for Massive Dynamics? Shades of Dharma with the spinning logo. Will keep watching for sure. Who cares why there was a cow in the lab. That's what makes LOST and now Fringe so interesting and mysterious with oddities like that.

I think the guy who plays the quirky PC on the Mac ads should play William Bell.

I glad for the TV show blog. I missed parts of the show, I'm use to the longer commercial breaks and didn't tune back in soon enough. The blurb about shorter commercials meant shorter but they added way too many more.

Walter, he was doing all these things 20 years ago. Why didn't anyone outside the lab followup on it when they closed his lab?

Cow? They use pig parts at times to substitute for human parts in some transplant surgery.

What did Walter do to keep up with changing technology while he was locked up? I know he used his own equipment (can't believe the U or the feds would keep all that stuff intact) but times have changed and equipment improved but Walter show know that new stuff is faster and better. Just as the PC guy on the Mac ads.

I agree w/poster who named William Devane for William Bell. I think he'd be perfect! I enjoyed the show, although I do hope they flesh out the character of Olivia a bit.

Hummmm. I took off on a channel surf at the second commercial and forgot to return. My big question is why did that gory, exciting start-up affect me so little, even with all the hype.

Your questions are excellent but even if you manage to get them answered I have decided already to bail on this show - I love TV and can usually put up with a lot but this isn't my cup of tea - there are shows I have never missed an episode of but this won't be one of them. Too slipshod which leaves all those pesky questions you are pondering.

Why did Anna and Mark's characters have to have a clandestine relationship? I can't believe that they would have to be separated if found out.
