Budig's Back on AMC! Plus, an Angie/Jesse Reunion?!

Mrs. Bachelor Bob is back in the Fusion business. Rebecca Budig will reclaim the role of All My Children's Greenlee starting January 16. (What do you think about it? Vote here.) Also, Daytime Emmy winners Debbi Morgan and Darnell Williams are returning as Angie and Jesse Hubbard on Jan. 18 and 25, respectively — this despite the fact that Jesse famously died in his wife's arms a bazillion years ago and has since made several ethereal visits as a ghost.

"We are giving the fans what they’ve been asking for — Rebecca returns as Greenlee and a beloved super-couple have a second chance," says ABC Daytime boss Brian Scott Frons. "Fans can look forward to Greenlee’s storyline developing around her business, her friendships and her love life. Angie and Jesse made an eternal imprint on... viewers, and many fans will not believe he's alive." Seriously — his ghost even gave Pine Valley that "magic box" one Christmas!

When Budig returns to the role she created, Greens is suddenly stricken down by a mysterious illness. That brings Angie back to Pine Valley Hospital to consult on Greenlee's case as well as that of a "secret patient." It all leads to what ABC calls "the most shocking reunion of all time: after 20 years, Angie will reunite with Jesse."

What's your take? Do you welcome Budig with open arms, or was Sabine Singh sufficing as the recast? And just how do you think they will bring back Jesse?! — Matt Webb Mitovich

I just hope James Brown and Barbara Esensten don't screw up Jesse (it's Jesse...not Jessie by the way) & Angie's return. I have to admit nothing I have read that they have done has made me want to tune in.

It's amazing how sometimes when a new writer(s) takes over a show the improvements are almost immmediate and sometimes months later you're still waiting for it to get good.

If you think people will forget about Sabine Singh, don't bet on it! I know that is what Frons and crew expect and want, but clearly Sabine's fan base has sorely disappointed him. Not only has he alienated those who embraced and loved Sabine as Greenlee but he's left a lot of people who prefer Rebecca Budig feeling VERY ambivalent about her return. I guess it has something to do with having a "conscience" (Frons should read up on it). People don't think it's right - even when it's something they might have wanted in to the past - to throw away someone like Sabine who has done a terrific job with the crud storylines she was given. People have standards. (Again Frons should read up on it).

Sorry Rebecca Budig but you and Frons played this very very wrong. You are not going to be welcomed back by THIS viewer and many others. Many of us feel you came back because you couldn't make it elsewhere and that it was selfish and wrong of you to refuse the role when it went to Sabine and now come back and get her FIRED so you can get a paycheck. Whatever role you had in this happening, you COULD HAVE SAID NO. You Could have said, GIVE HER MORE NOTICE. But Nooooo, got to get a paycheck somewhere. Guess they don't pay too well for those big time guest spots as strippers on CSI!!

I am happy she is returning but I am sorry Sabine got dumped. I didn't care for her at all at first but I was finally starting to get used to her in the role.

RB returning is the best news ever.

Sabine was doing the best with what she was given, but I've just never taken to the her version of Greenlee.

The chemistry was just never the same with Kendall, Ryan, Jackson, Erica, Lily or even Zack for that matter, and they are all key people in Greenlee's life.

RB's return will breathe a little life back into the charecter and the relationships.

As for Angie and Jessie, well I'm not sure how they'll pull this off, but I sure will be glued to the TV to find out.

What a shame/surprise about Sabine! I thought she was doing a fine job as Greenlee. What's puzzling is that they reshot a lot of "flashback" scenes with her interacting with Jackson, Erica, Ryan and Kendall in place of Rebecca.

I agree with what other posters are saying about the return of Jesse. They better have a damn good explanation for that one!!

I haven't watched AMC since Marcy Walker left and the news of Jesse/Angie is just the ticket to get me tuned in again. I pray they (the writers) don't screw it up. Can we also get Marcy back - PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!

Puhleeze. What's the matter, diva Budig couldn't hack it in the real world?

How rude to snub her nose when she was asked to come back, now someone is getting fired to appease her.

But I guess since Bachelor Bob isn't really working either, someone has to have a job.

Sabine Singh just can't carry sexy and devious off the way Rebecca Budig can. Sabine comes off as too sweet. Rebecca has a sneaky/sly quality to her that I missed, and I'm so glad to have her back!

You r sounding like a hater -- but a FUNNY hater at least! So true about piggyface Bachelor Bob. :^O

Hey did you see Daniel's Q&A with Rebecca B.? (He's the old soap guy.) The Q&A is here in his blog and there's a lot more soap news in there too. I am glad he still shows us some love over here from time to time... B-)

I'm so glad Rebecca Budig is coming back to AMC. I never liked Sabine Singh from the very beginning. Never felt she was that good of an actress. She didn't seem to fit the "Greenlee mold". Something about her was all wrong and it never changed. I never thought she was the one for the recast.
As for Angie and Jesse, I thought they were a great couple and didn't like Jesse getting killed off. Glad they're bringing them back. Should be interesting to see what the explanation is for Jesse being "gone" for so long.
Maybe GH could take a lesson. But then the show would have to be renamed "General Hospital Ghost town".

They'll probably have Jesse waking up from a 20-year coma, after everyone was told he was dead for his protection. Then Tad will come in and talk about all of the "dreams" he had where Jesse returned as a ghost to comfort and/or advise him.

So glad to hear Rebecca Budig is coming back. She is a great actress and "made" Greenlee.

Thanks so much for the information Matt! I remember Angie and Jesse and am also wondering how they are going to bring him back when they have had him on there as an angel quite a few times.

Also, can somebody please tell me who does the soap opera updates everyday? They have not been updated since last Thursday and I would like to know if this is stopping permanently.

Thanks

I'm glad that Rebecca is coming back but I will say that Sabine has really grown on me. Sabine's Greenlee and Aidan were becoming a nice solid couple and their romance has been the only thing of interest on AMC. The news is bittersweet but I have faith that Sabine will get another shot. Now for the Angie and Jesse news I'm not quite sure how I feel about that one. I love Darnell Williams and Debbit Morgan. I can still remember Jesse going off on Liza, his wonderful friendships with Jenny and Tad and of course true love with Angie. When Jesse died so did the character and I was fortunate enough to watch The City to see the actors reunited. As far I am concerned and Angie and Jacob can return to Pine Valley but please let Jesse stay dead. Granted I'm not seeing Angie and Jesse on AMC for long anyway. The way AMC has been treating it's black characters for the last 5 years or so has been a shame, so I fully expect to them to be making pop up appearances like Livia and Derrick or outright vanish like Reggie once all the press fanfare dies down.

I'm really happy to find out that a lot of people are just as dissatisfied with this piece of news as I am... I grew to love Sabine as Greenlee, and I am not happy at all to see her go. This whole thing has been handled very badly. You'd think that ABC doesn't have PR people by reading how they've been presenting this. The 'real' Greenlee is back? What an insult! And what an insult to all of us who have had to accustom ourselves to this new Greenlee to then have her replaced so that Frons may fulfill what he thinks is every AMC fan's fantasy: to have RB back as Greenlee. Others have already pointed out: better storylines, better writing, and an EP and head writers that truly care about the show is what we are dreaming of. I remember when Felicia Minei Behr was EP. You could feel the love she had for the show. She'd first joined AMC in 1975, she even met her husband on the set. She gave me the impression of someone who cared deeply about the show. Where's the love these days? Sabine, you have my full support, the letters to Frons and JHC are already in the mail, and the stuffed tiger is coming!
