Konami Teases Next Metal Gear -- What Is This?
Kojima Productions wants you to get talking about its next Metal Gear project.
What on earth does this image, currently displayed on the developer's website, mean? Besides, of course, that its mastery of the English language has gone downhill since the departure of Ryan Payton? It's a clue to where the next game in the storied series will end up. Speculation is running rampant. This is what we're hearing:
1up.com says the green color might refer to the Xbox 360, and repeats the rumor that made the cover of EGM a while back -- that Metal Gear Solid 4 will end up on Microsoft's console. If it's not that, says the site, it could be a port of the original Solid for Xbox Live Arcade.
In the NeoGAF thread, at least one person has speculated that the lowercase i stands for iPhone, and that the exclamation point is from the logo of Metal Gear Acid, meaning that the strategy series might end up on Apple's new toy. I kind of like that explanation.
Somebody else said that the i is "in the Wii font," which I think we can all agree is a bit too much wishful thinking.

Or it could mean acid is coming to the DSi.
Or it could be that rumored additional ending for the PS3.
That power symbol is on everything, and even the green color signifies power. I see it on the Viao and Dell in front of me. The Symbol is on the PS3, the 360, and the Wii.
Kojima certainly want to go for ambiguous and to stir interest. He succeeded.

@ MG
Come on, man, are you serious? Do you really believe that porting Guns of the Patriots is a possibility? Or alternatively, would they port games released for hand held devices to their flagship console?

Didn't they already say that MGS 1 would be coming to XBLA during an E3 conference? I'm pretty sure they did, if this green campaign is an indication of that, that's one hell of a hype train to get into based off a re-release of a game that already had many, many releases (and even a remake).

Well we know off the bat it's not the xbox 360...
If they wanted to advertise for the 360, it would be a red power button.

My wish is that Wii sales will slow and that software sales will take a nose dive. I loathe the Wii. The fewer real game franchises that get the Wii treatment the better IMO.

@MG - Because we all know that Metal Gear is exactly the kind of game that people who play Wii Fit and Wii Sports want . . . give me a break. The Wii is good at selling consoles not games.
Posted by: S9 | Dec 5, 2008 11:59:54 AM
Clearly, it's a Metal Gear MMO.

Maybe they are stating that they(jokingly)believe that the xbox 360 is a metal gear. Maybe it needs to be destroyed. :)

You have all missed the point completely.
That first character is clearly not an 'i' but the Spanish upside-down exclamation mark, 'ยก'.
There can only be one explanation: the next Metal Gear protagonist will be Solid Snake's Mexican bastard half-brother, codenamed "La Serpiente Gaseosa."

Most likely something MGS related on 360. That's the standard PC power icon which is featured prominently on the 360's face plate. Green goes with the 360 branding as well.
I wouldn't rule out the ac!d and iPhone rumor though.
Wii seems like an odd fit, although I wonder if they could downsample MGS4 for the Wii's hardware?

Is this what happens when the letter "i" does somersaults?
The last image "i" goes full circle if you think of the letter spinning along the round path. I thought it also resembled the X360 glow.

My best guess is something to do with the 360.... that's a fairly obvious symbol, imo.
@MG: Kohler looooves Nintendo. If he's calling something unrealistic for Nintendo, it's not out of Sony fanboyism.

@S9
yeah, cuz we all know how great hd console games are. please dood. the ps3 and xbox 360 consoles games aren't that great.
ps3/xbox360 triple-a games = huge disappointments (most of them didn't live up to hype)

Metal Green Solid: Snake Cleans up the Planet. Exclusive for the Wii and DS.

CLEARLY no one here knows basic Spanish.
Vamos a mirar Metal Gear Solid 5: coca de la fuerzas armadas revolucionarias de cuba!
Where do you think the upside down exclamation point comes from? Dutch?
Damn, can't anyone stop thinking with their consoles for a sec?

I don't know about any one else, but I've never seen a power symbol with an exclamation point instead of a solid line...
Try this one... I stands for internet, exclamation implies excitement, power symbol with exclamation means exciting power.
Either Solid was bitten by a radioactive ostrich and is now a superhero, or there may be multiplayer involved in this new version.
See, I can make up speculation too!

I agree with Metal Gear Acid on the DSi... Gotta con people into buying the same thing again somehow!

Wow. Idiots. Only 2 peeps have picked up on the Spanish thing. They are smart.

"IT's wishful thinking to say that the game might be on Wii? Yeah, because Konami would never want to make a game for the market leading console and the undisputed king of Japan. God you people make me sick. When are you people going to get over your fanboy crap?" - MG
I think he's talking about how much of a far reach that conclusion is, in relativity to how much evidence there is to support it, while actively disregarding the other possible clues.
Calm down, man, before you give yourself a hernia.

That ! might be from the logo from Metal Gear Ac!d BTW, so it might be MGA related.

@MG
CK is nowhere near biased against the Wii. Just look at the book in the right column under TEAM for a start.
And, I think the Wii is entirely possible. I think it's a Metal Gear: JUDGEMENT. It's their new rip apart great franchises into subpar fighters motto.
Seriously, I'm going to say it is something 360 related. MGS4 seems more worth teasing than a MGS XBLA remake. And that would be something that would hit PSN too. On the cheap. Nope, this is something 360 only. And it's MGS4. Each act could be a disc. Maybe two acts per disc. It's possible.
I'm down.... Best of both worlds is the way to go. I REALLY hope it means a trophy update for PS3 MGS4. LOL!!!

Xbox 360??
Yeah funny joke.
Posted by: cimerians | Dec 5, 2008 9:01:56 PM
the equal sign looks like the power button on a mac.
Posted by: Bekays | Dec 6, 2008 8:46:42 AM
Clearly it's a Spanish language edition of MGS4 for Xbox 360.
Posted by: AKA | Dec 6, 2008 10:18:15 AM
Power symbol + green = 360. thats pretty obvious.
! is a symbol that is common amongst all mgs games so it means little.
a remake of mgs4 for 360 ignores the i. what does the i mean?
an i phone game would make sense given the mac product placement in mgs4 but that completly ignores the clues pointing to an xbox360 game.
my guess is a multiplatform 360+iphone ac!d game.

IT's wishful thinking to say that the game might be on Wii? Yeah, because Konami would never want to make a game for the market leading console and the undisputed king of Japan.
God you people make me sick. When are you people going to get over your fanboy crap?
