However, as Alannah Arguelles discovers, DeJoria’s background might come as a surprise.

Q&A

Ted Gibson, Hairstylist
Vanity Fair’s beauty director, SunHee Grinnell, gets to know one of her favorite celebrity hairstylists a little bit better.

Holiday Hot Looks

1. The beat goes on with Burberry’s the Beat cologne, the latest addition to the fashion house’s fragrance collection. A mix of manly-man scents (leatherwood, smoke, woodiness, bourbon, and black pepper) is contained in the miniature flask-like packaging, which is complete with Burberry’s signature plaid print.

2. Travel around the world with Acqua di Parma’s Colonia Travel Set. Packaged in a chic, portable size, the brand’s classic Colonia scent, which has hints of Sicilian citrus, lavender, and bergamot, is ready to globe-trot in a saddle-stitched, calf-nappa case.

3. Clinique’s set of hot-pink, orange, and silver Happy-to-Go perfume pencils will brighten up a dull winter day. Floral and citrus scents, fittingly named Wealth of Flowers and Hint of Citrus, are paired with Clinique’s Happy fragrance.

4. The renowned Italian fragrance-maker and apothecary Antica Farmacista is debuting its first candle. The signature Champagne scent creates a feeling of classic luxury.

5. Dr. Gross’s MDSC Detox Duo regimen offers an easy way to keep your skin luminous during the winter months. The Antioxidant Enzyme Buff and Purifying Bath Crystals will exfoliate, soften, and heal your skin with the help of botanical extracts, blueberry seeds, Dead Sea salts, and vitamins.

6. Your skin will glow when you pair Tocca’s new Rich Body Polish with its Rich Body Cream. Choose one of three scents: Cleopatra (with notes of cucumber and grapefruit), Florence (which combines the scents of iris root and an old European garden rose), and Stella (a fresh, blood-orange-based fragrance). Packaged in glass jars with a golden etching of a mermaid on the lid, these new products bring indulgence to a new level.

7. Inspired by a romantic weekend in Paris, Chanel’s sleek new Collection Essentielle de Chanel compact is a perfect gift for women on the go. From afternoon tea to a holiday ball, it will perfectly complement any occasion.

8. Soak your skin in Miller Harris’s bath and body oils. Blended with sweet-almond oil and nourishing avocado, the light woody, floral oils are packaged in solid-glass flacons embellished with the fragrance house’s classic botanical-print design.

9. Malin & Goetz’s pint-size Junior Candle Set (inspired by the size of the company founders’ French bulldog) fits easily in a Christmas stocking. The green, citrus, and spice notes will dance into every corner of your house.

10. Since 1851, Kiehl’s has grown from a small apothecary in New York City’s East Village to a global powerhouse in the skin-care industry. In time for the holidays, the brand has created Gently Exfoliating scrubs with its most cherished scents: lavender, grapefruit, coriander, and pear.

Hot Looks

Jade is synonymous with youth and innocence, as well as elegance and seduction. Using this as inspiration, Bulgari crafted a new perfume, Omnia Green Jade. The beauty and history behind the stone come through in the scent’s delicate notes of green mandarin, white peony, jasmine, white woods, and pear blossom.

You’ll be golden—literally—wearing Fleur’s Eldora Lifting Firming Cream: 24-carat gold is swirled into the formula. The flecks in the elixir fill in your skin’s fine lines, disguising even the deepest wrinkles, since light reflects off the bling. Seriously.

Nars’s Firming Foundation not only has a lightweight texture, but it also will make your skin feel smooth and hydrated. The quickly absorbing formula lessens the appearance of wrinkles, protects against environmental toxins, and minimizes imperfections.

Add sparkle to your holiday makeup bag with Shu Uemura’s famous 24K Gold Limited Edition Eyelash Curler, which is back on shelves for a limited time.

Switzerland has a long tradition of excellence in skin care, and Cellcosmet’s Ultra Vital Créme Cellulaire raises the bar even higher. This face cream, which improves the skin’s texture and restores its elasticity, pioneers new technology that evolved from the brand’s historic Swiss roots.

Cover FX’s new Total Coverage Cream will hide anything, from dark under-eye circles and serious blemishes to bruises or even an old tattoo. The miracle elixir, which can be used anywhere on your body, pairs heavy coverage with a feather-light texture.

If your skin shows signs of stress, dehydration, aging, or environmental damage, try incorporating 3Lab’s new M Cream into your skin-care regime. The product breaks boundaries in both science and beauty with two key ingredients: stem cells from a rare Swiss apple and a bioengineered growth hormone–like protein. This concoction delays signs of aging and helps to hydrate, firm, and rejuvenate skin.

In 1830, Count Gabriel Alfred d’Orsay, in a fit of unrequited desire, created a fragrance for his forbidden love Lady Blessington. Almost two centuries later, d’Orsay’s Etiquette Bleue carries on the passionate legend. With light citrus notes (Sicilian lemon, sweet orange) and a rosewood base, the scent wears wonderfully on any woman.

Also from d’Orsay is Le Nomade, a new men’s fragrance inspired by those who love to travel and the intersection of cultures. It combines a classic, masculine scent with notes of amber heart, ivy, cedar leaves, and Asian cardamom.

Founded by a Russian classical pianist, Zoya prepares you for center stage with its Color-Lock nail products. This handy quad (Anchor Basecoat, Armor Topcoat, Hurry Up Speed Dry Drops, and Remove Plus) is everything you need to make a manicure last. To top it off, Zoya’s polishes are the first lacquers to be made without harsh toxins like formaldehyde or dibutyl phthalate.

John Masters, the founder and owner of one of the only organic hair salons in the country, brings us John Masters Organics Shine On, a new leave-in hair treatment. Suitable for all hair types, it uses organic kelp and other key ingredients to soften hair, increase its volume, and bring out a natural-looking shine.
