NBA Southeast Division Preview

November 30, 2008 12:52 pm - Author: Community Writer

Community writer, Mercury53, is starting a series of articles where he will feature the different divisions of the NBA. Today we are releasing his Southeast Division preview. Be sure to stop by our forums and share your predictions and thoughts on division.

*Teams are ordered in prediction they will finish the season.

 1) Atlanta Hawks– Believe it or not the Hawks are having a great start to the season. Who would have thought that this was even possible for a team with so many young pieces? When you look at this team on paper the two main contributors are Joe Johnson and Mike Bibby. Neither of these two players is very young and both have had pretty decent success in the league already. Look for the Hawks, lead by the two guards, to continue to win and head to playoffs.

 2) Orlando Magic- Any team with a player as good as Dwight Howard is going win games. Put Rashard Lewis on that team and look out. J.J Redick and Jameer Nelson are pure scores and along side Howard and Lewis this team can be very good. I see them making the playoffs but getting shut down by the more powerful teams in the Central and Atlantic divisions.

3) Miami Heat- Early in the year I thought the Heat would lose 80 games and get another first overall pick. How wrong I was with that predication. Dwyane Wade is simply amazing and now he has some help. Michael Beasley is up for the Rookie of the Year Award and rookie guard Mario Chalmers is an amazing shooter. This team might not win the division but they sure will spoil the hopes of division leaders.

 4) Charlotte Bobcats- This team is young and missing a true leader. If Kobe Bryant were a Bobcat this team would be in the Finals, but he’s not, so no Finals. Emeka Okafor is big and strong and he can play defense better then most players in the league. Adam Morrison is getting better and Raymond Felton is a better then average point guard. Sadly the Bobcats will miss the playoffs again.

 5) Washington Wizards – What can I say about the Wiz. Well, they're not very good. Gilbert Arenas is out and without him this team is nothing. Caron Butler, Antonio Daniels and Antawn Jamison are good players, but they need a big scorer to take the pressure off of them on offense. All one has to do is play solid defense and this team will fall. Look for the Wizards to struggle all year until Arenas comes back.

I'd love for my Hawks to win the division. For that to happen we absolutely have to stay healthy.

I can't wait until I get NBA 2K9. The Hawks may actually be good enough to use online.
