The Empty Trips X-Clown is probably a play that not too many people have seen just yet. The reason most people probably haven't seen it is because it's a five wide receiver set and your quarterback is under center. However, if you're able to complete passes by getting rid of the football the moment that you receive the snap, then this formation can be effective. In this tip, we're going to showcase two different plays from the Empty Trips formation that should be used together to give your opponent's headaches over and over again. Read the rest below as we take you step by step through the process.
Quick Setup
Step 1 - Snap the ball and press up on the directional pad while firmly pressing the (A) receiver's button.
Play Breakdown
The receiver that you will want to utilize most of the time from the X-Clown play is the highlighted (A) receiver. The flat route that this (A) receiver is running is extremely difficult to guard for any man and zone defense. Typically, the best thing the defense can hope to happen is that the receiver is hit immediately after he catches the pass.
Our opponent has three defenders on the right side of the field. Also, one of those defenders is moving into the flats, so you would think that a quick pass to the flats wouldn't be open.
Our quarterback receives the snap and we prepare to make the pass to the right.
Just a moment after the ball is in our quarterback's hands we hit the receiver's icon while pressing up on the directional pad.
The ball closes in on our receiver while the defenders try to react.
