WR Rotation Pays Off In First Test

Andy Reid used the term "diluted" as he described the six-man rotation the Eagles used at wide receiver once Kevin Curtis and Reggie Brown rounded into good health and joined the lineup after injuries marred their September availability. Coincidence or not, the passing game has had more ups and downs with all six receivers on the active roster and heavily in the game plan for the most recent six games, starting with Atlanta.

Curtis, with 26 receptions and 211 yards in those outings, is rounding into form after missing time with a sports hernia. Brown, with only 13 catches in his nine games, has been moved out of the primary mix as the result of the downsizing.

It is an interesting watch at a position that fascinates everyone, and that continues to be a daily debate among fans. Do the Eagles have enough at wide receiver to win a Super Bowl? By trimming the rotation from six players to four, Reid and the coaching staff are saying that, for now, less is more.

And in the game against Arizona, when the Eagles torched the Cardinals for 437 total net yards, the foursome of Curtis, DeSean Jackson, Jason Avant and Hank Baskett fit the pieces together perfectly. Jackson was an intermediate-area receiver who caught and ran his way to 76 yards and a touchdown on 6 receptions. Jackson found space and used his speed and quickness to tear up the Cardinals' hash-to-hash defense. Curtis was the water bug, finding creases in coverage as Donovan McNabb spread the ball around. McNabb tried to stretch the field with a long pass down the field to both Jackson and Curtis, just to keep the Cardinals from squatting on short routes.

Baskett was the go-to receiver to keep the chains moving. Four of his 5 receptions gained first downs, and Baskett did a little bit of everything -- catching and running for 20 yards, laying out and making a spectacular diving grab, running a quick slant for a catch in coverage and catching a dump in the flat for 2 yards and a first down.

Avant, usually the staple on third downs, did his damage in traffic with 4 catches for 25 yards and a touchdown.

Together, the group of four receivers combined for 20 catches, 2 touchdowns and 202 yards. The two other receivers, Brown and Greg Lewis, played sparingly but did not catch a pass.

The assumption, then, is that the Eagles will continue with the four-man rotation at wide receiver and that, while Brown and Lewis will dress and may see a few snaps here or there, they will not be much more involved in the picture. The challenge on Sunday against an excellent Giants defense is to, as Reid likes to say, put his receivers in position to make plays in the passing game. The Eagles will try to run the ball, yes, but they are looking at matchups here and, frankly, the Giants just don't give up much on the ground.

McNabb and the offense cobbled together 300 total net yards against the Giants in the 36-31 loss on November 9, striking for some big plays, taking advantage of turnovers and putting the ball in the end zone via the passing game. If the offensive line can play as well now as it did then and give McNabb time to set up and throw, the Eagles will try to gash the New York secondary with their receiver pieces.

This game, then, is a superb test for the receivers, for the passing game, for the philosophy of the offense. It is one thing to do it with such an authoritative and confident approach against Arizona. Hey, the Eagles deserved a good pat on the back for a job well done on Thursday night.

But this is different, and everyone knows it. You don't open gaping holes against New York's front seven. You don't deal aces from the first snap through the 60th minute when you are playing against players and a scheme who are this good. What you do is remain patient, stick to your approach, change on the go when the opportunities present themselves and play with a high level of efficiency and precision.

Curtis, Jackson, Avant and Baskett have to win the battles in the passing game, and then McNabb must have time to set up and throw accurately in a hostile environment. Curtis has to be quick, strong, and catch the ball in the 8-to-15-yard range, as well as make a play or two down the field. Jackson is going to get a lot of attention, of course, and he has to be an explosive presence who the Eagles can get into space and give him a chance to make big plays.

Baskett, who has improved as much as any player on this roster since the 2007 season, must play strong in traffic and use his size to create some favorable matchups. Avant has to control the inside area and make plays on third down and keep the chains moving.

It remains to be seen if the Eagles have enough at wide receiver to win big. There have been multiple problems at many times with this offense, and not one area is to blame. The receivers, as a group, have had too many drops and not enough touchdowns. Still, the Eagles believe they can be successful with this wide receiver corps, but they also recognize the need to be more consistent.

Brown, for one is not where the Eagles thought he would be at this stage of the season. He closed with a flourish last season and the Eagles hoped he would blossom into an every-week playmaker teaming with Curtis, with Jackson and with a good group of role receivers. But a hamstring injury and then a groin injury robbed Brown of his explosiveness through the first month of the season and he has been unable to claim his spot since.

Jackson has been better than advertised and leads the Eagles in receptions and yards. He is an extremely promising young receiver who figures only to gain strength and experience to go along with his tremendous natural skills.

Curtis' sports hernia injury has had an impact, clearly. After a 77-catch season in 2007, Curtis figured to be even more involved this year. Didn't happen. May still happen, but time is dwindling.

Both Baskett and Avant have put up better numbers than a year ago, and both fit their roles well. The Eagles can do a little bit of everything with this group. They have some versatility.

Sunday, they need to display more than that. They need all of their receivers to get open, to catch the ball, to defeat the physical and complicated scheme the Giants play.

This is another Sunday and another 60 minutes of questions for the wide receivers. Are they good enough? Is this team good enough? The challenge waits in the form of the defending Super Bowl champions, a Giants team that is 11-1 and the best team in the league.

Hmmmmm. TCU DC is named Dikk Bumpass. Wonder if he is related to Gaylord Focker? === But seriously... one time we got laid over in San Antonio. I'm sorry but Bama just doesn't do it for me. I gotta believe that FLA/OU will be the game to see. Bama has been in some ugly wins this year. Against some not so good teams. Too ugly to bring that kind of game against either FLA and OU, or even either one of the Texas teams....IMOH.

Ok... I gotta do it. I haven't mentioned Dez Bryant cause he's from Lufkin, Texas.... our biggest rival in HS. The oldest rivalry in Texas btw. But I want that guy on the EAGLES. === For the record.... I wouldn't be shocked if I kicked his arse at some point. When we got real bored we would drive to Lufkin and go to the city park and beat up whoever we saw. He might have been there. === And when nobody was there.... we just fought each other.

And sometimes I would just get a spasm and hit the ground in the middle of Wal Mart or somewhere. My biggest problem was muscle memory. Had to break that. And it wasn't hard to fall back in. === But I know thats 100% different from Andrews disc problem. Whats his deal? Is he done? Forever? Or is it for sure he will be back next year at the latest? "diluting" the wideouts as he put it is the best thing for this offense. It gives the guys a better chance to focus on what they're doing if they're not worried so much bout losing there spot. I think those four receivers are the real difference makers out there and with B-West in the backfield not much can go wrong. Defensive play is more important vs Giants though. Need to stop the run and even tho Plax is out Eli still has some targets. Dawkins was awesome last week. Also well done to Klecko some really good blockin on thursday night. Whole Team was epic. My prediction for sunday. Eagles roll on a down and out Gmen. We'll see...

nuuudls i like what eckel did last week if it continues great this game will be a good test. as for andrews he's great when and if he plays. in his short career he's missed 2 seasons and then was injured in that playoff game and was done quietly at the half. as for klecko he has things to learn at the fullback spot. he's ok there, but i thought early in the season when he was playing back up dt he got good pressure up the middle. i guess it depends on where you think he's more valuable to your team. learning a new position or playing where he is more comfortable. while doing that we can use him in the same role as the pats and colts did. bring him in the jumbo backfield package as the fb if you like. jackson and herramans are good not great. so if we can get better there why not? as for #5 and oh no cinco being friends is a beautiful thing but if he's not that much better than the guys we have why bring him in for more money. he's had to bad years in a row i'd rather have t.j. by the way dbm that sounds like a nice blend to create something special

jtrent: Dont ignore those "depleted" wide recievers. Hixon and Toomer played big against the Redskins. Keep in mind, Carlos Rogers and Shawn Springs are having a good season, and their safeties are pretty good too, so our secondary has to play some tough man to man coverage if we're gonna stop the run.

As I was typing that Nuudlz, I was thinking that you'd counter with Howard. (LoL) I am not saying that Parker couldn't DEVELOP into a half-decent rush DT, I just think he's better suited as a DE. I think the "problem" here is that we have too many good athletes and choices at DL and LB. It's a nice "problem" to have for a change...
Nuuuudlz
12/02/08
4:18 pm
Chris: Akeem is barely 230 lbs, Mike Lewis' weight. Lewis couldnt cover as a safety or a linebacker, but Akeem is valued for his coverage skills. As a SS, he should be fine. Fits into a heavy package, imo.

Joker is different. Joker is a 3 man line with a DE standing behind it.... like a MLB... like when Parker took that INT for 6 Vs SF. === The 50 front is a regular 4-3. Then the SLB walks up on the line outside the DE. The SSDE slides inside the OT. And the WSDT and WSDE slide out half a gap. The you have 5 up front with Gocong standing... and Bradley and whoever at WLB the only LB's. === Watch for it.

JB: you talking about the joker position? Yeah, that does suit Gocong pretty good. Gocong has been solid . . . but Stew could fill it out better, and O.G. is a machine on the inside. And if we draft a run-stuffer . . . the 3-4 with akeem, O.G., Mays, and Stew would be sick. Alternate that with Gocong and Coles playing defensive end. Howard and Parker getting push at tackle. So much we can do that we havent touched yet. You mentioned Akeem at safety . . . I been calling for that since the offseason! Is anyone scared of the GIANTS and this game coming up? We shouldn't be as the Eagles really have nothing to lose. It's all upside should they win. I think the team goes into this game and plays lose and takes some chances on both sides of the ball. Keep their offense off the field is a key in this game. Chris: The strongside linebacker is always in the best position to cover the tight end. Less ground to cover than an MlB, weakside or even the safeties. Gocong holds the position because its not practical to retrain 3 linebackers at once (Akeem is still learning his position, O.G. or Bradley would have to learn JJ's defense at the strongside, and Gocong would have to master the DE position under JJ).

Understood, Nuuuuudlz. But all of the Eagles LBs have been weak vs. opposing TEs this year. We haven't really had one that could truly cover a tight end since Carlos Emmons was here. If Gocong was THAT bad against the pass, why would JJ and AR keep insert him at the position and keep him there for all of 2008? He's not that bad....

Dewomb: We have our fullback. Klecko needs a little work on the outside blocking, but he's tough inside, he catches well, and he's good on ST. Eckel could be our short yardage guy, so we may not need to address that position at all, depending on how these next few games go. Tackle is not the issue as much as the inside line is. Herramans and Andrews are earmarked to take the tackle spots, so its a question of who replaces them inside. Jackson isnt a good enough center, either. As to the Chad . . . keep in mind he has a good relationship with Donny. Credited Donny with advising him through a tough personal situation. Not at all like the T.O. situation.

10 wins can get us in, if we're not the only team in playoff contention with 10 wins. If Atlanta and Dallas and Washington wind up at 10 and we win out, we end the season with 5 losses, they end the season with 6 losses, we get in. Personally, I'm not crazy about that scenario. I have to retract a previous statement on another thread about NO's diminished playoff hopes possibly affecting their game vs Atlanta. I had counted them as out now, but realistically they could be hoping for a loss by us, and some other possible help in the NFC, so though behind us now, they aren't officially out yet, so they still have a reason to bring their A game vs Atlanta this week instead of potentially going into evaluation of rookies mode.

rock: I cant help thinking that O.G. deserves to play Middle or Strongside, depending on where beef Stew plays next year. I like Gocong as a defensive end more than as a linebacker. He could certainly play the run and the blitz from the line without dropping his stats, and his coverage skills fit the defensive end in the zone scheme better than they do the responsibilities of a linebacker.

I can tell you that Mcnabb has cracked the record books in most categories. He hasnt topped Randall in the rushin yards, but other then that . . . he's put up a lot of numbers for us. I can tell you that Westbrook will crack the Bryars and Montgomery stats if he can stay healthy for 2 years. I can tell you that Desean Jackson is poised to be the 1st eagles receiver to ever crack 1000 yds in his rookie season. I can tell you that our tight ends are well below average and that Tra Thomas cant block anymore. I can tell you that Darren Howard leads the league in sacks by a backup player. Dawk is still a playmaker behind the line of scrimmage, and Mikell plays the run pretty good. your right about the corners . . . Asante (hopefully), Brown, and Jose.

brizer) you had a point on Ariz may not have the cap to franchise boldin, but after a quick check of TO, Moss, Fitzgerald's, and Boldins 2008 salaries, pretty safe to say franchise tag may be close to what they would offer as a new contract anyway. 3 Mil increase over his 2008 contract is probably about right in the ballpark for franchise, so pretty sure that fits in their cap space to franchise unless they've been spending close to the penny.

Also, offensively speaking we have performed very well within the division so far this year. My main concern this week is about stopping the run. JJ needs to get off the field, 3 and out! He already knows this of course, but doing it appears to be the challange our D faces. If, and this is a big "If", we can stop the running game, and make them one dimmensional, then I predict we win the game 27 - 13. I say the Gmen get an early TD, then JJ makes his adjustments, and we give up two FG the rest of the way. Offensively, I say we put up 21 in the first half. Picking up 7 more in the 4th Q. I see us passing a lot. But the pases will be short ones. A lot of screens, and short dumps to #36. Also some running plays to DJack, end arounds and the such.

If we don't handle the 3 headed monster running game of the Giants it will be a long day. The Redskins game plan was to stop the run and Eli threw for over 300 for the 1st time this year. IMO, the TE Boss hurt the skins big time. We need to use the screen pass big time to offset their rush. AR, Don't abandon the run if it doesn't work early. Stay with it. As always, the weather/wind will be a factor at the Meadowlands this time of year. It could have a big impact with the kicking game. I look for a close hard hitting game decided by turnovers. Eagles 17 - Giants 14. As for Ocho, he is a 'mental' case. Do not bring him on the Eagles.

icon: The key to the Chad deal is that he is already good friends with Donny, gives Donny credit with helping him deal with his situation in Cincy. So there is respect between the two beyond the reputation and numbers. We didnt have that with TO, and the deal the FO made to get him was a disaster waiting to happen. Chad's production over the past 2 years is not enough to bring in a moster contract, so 2 recievers, a pro-bowl corner and a low draft pick should be more than enough compensation. I think this situation is very managable. If we dont get him, fine, but if we do . . . we definitely got a big push next season, as long as we address our other needs.

Morning everyone, or what's left of it. Way too many posts to read, already!. So, I'm not gonna bother. A couple of early posts I saw though got me thinking about that Eckel kid. I know everyone is high on him now, and Booker seems to have gained a little traction as well, but I have to tell you all to beware! I'm not saying the kid can't play, but if he doesn't perform well this week don't be too surprised. First of all no one had any tape on the kid till last weeks game. Now they do. Second, the Cards D was garbage. At least their run D is. Last in the league I think? As Brizer would put it, "Me thinks the Gmen will be ready for him." I think we're going to have to rely on Westy for any ground game this week.

unrealistic is always the tone of the philly "faithful". Chad is the most realistic FA move. Boldin is gonna want waaaay more cake than Lurie will dish out. Lee Evans is gonna get the farm thrown at him in Buffalo. Crab is gonna be top 5 unless he tanks in the bowl game. Dont see that happening. Chad has a good relationship with Don, and he hasnt put up numbers consistent with a big contract. Cinci needs depth at the wr and corner positions. Figgur it out, geniuses . . .

We need to control the clock but the problem with that is our coach isn't that kind of coach he like to pass and pass often...not really fond of AR but we are stuck with him.....Bwest needs to be the focal point in this offense and if buck is better get him some touches...hell get our FBs some touches to...bottom line is if we have any chance in hell to win this game(which I don't think we do) we need to have a run to pass ratio of 60/40.....McNabb has to get in a sink with his receivers early...I know our defense has been playing good but they are inconsistent against the run so that is going to be key...GO EAGLES!!!Our playoffs start now win and were in or lose and another long Offseason..

First & foremost, Eagles offensive must control the clock. No more PASS-PASS-PASS= 3 and out. Reid ought to have learned that lesson. Eagles D knocked the snot outta Jacobs last game. He'll fumble some more! May the hard tackling continue. Birds lost a couple of questionable officiating calls, too. Defensive keys: limit Giants redzone to FGs not TDs. Rough up Manning. Rough up Jacobs. Offensive keys: no more 3 and out play-calls from Reid; better 3rd down percentage; RUSH more; use Westy as receiver and line-up Eckels behind Klecko.

Reggie would, and does, better on posts and go routes. He NEVER has done well catching anything short or mid especially over the middle. This offense and its design are not going to give him too many go routes. He can make that big play so maybe a team that utilizes more of a spread offense could use him.

I have to think that the Giants are due for a loss - sitting at 11-1, still playing strong but when you're out in front there is a tendency to coast a bit, mentally let off the gas. We're coming in desperate - if we can get ahead, slow their running game, punish them a bit, there is a great chance that some Giants will fold and let go. and with the Plexico distractions this week, all the more likely.

we can all dream, fyer. dreams are fun. reality, at this point, isnt so bad, and thats better than we can say about the years since 2003. Yeah, I said it . . . 2004 eagles werent all that great as a team. Mcnabb and T.O. and Westbrook and Chad Lewis were great, but we had zero depth. Tre and Runyan were in their primie but . . . Mayberry and Welbourn and Fraley werent all that great. Our Secondary was nasty and Corey Simon was a beast, but . . . Walker? Kearse? The rest of the d-line? washed up or overrated. Lousy linebackers, outside of trot. Special Teams never really clicked like it should, either. 2003 was just missing recievers, and now we're just missing a lineman or 2 and a good tight end. really close to the formula.

All this talk about Curtis and Baskett . . . it doesnt matter which one of them starts when they are both healthy, as long as both of them get enough looks. Please stick to curtis, Djax, Baskett and avant. 2 have speed, 1 has size, all have hands and guts. Putting a pretty face on the site doesnt fool True Eagles Fans!!!!! We still see how ugly this site is on the inside. We know that you cant polish ****. We see thru all the spin. That said, Spadaro actually makes a good point here FOR ONCE. Less means more with these WRs. The only point missing about the receiving corp is that the TE is not mentioned as part of the receiving corp. We should play 3 and 4 wr sets to keep LJ smith of the field or give celek a chance. I dont know if celek is good enough to start in the NFL, but he needs the chance to show whether or not he is good. I dont see what they have to lose by benching LJ.

Celek doesnt deserve half the credit we've given him this year. His hands are HORRIBLE. When he catches the ball, he's a load, and thats gravy . . . but then he cant block? Horrible hands. All season I have stuck behind McNabb although the memory of his super bowl sickness is still vivid in my mind. I played QB for over 11 years of my life, and I may have learned a thing or two about the position in that time. All year I have been preaching that the Eagles coaching staff is making it hard on "5" to get himself into a rhythm. How can you expect a QB to get into the flow of the game when one play he is looking at a package of Curtis, Reggie Brown, and DeSean. and the following play he is staring at Baskett, DeSean, and Avant. This is why slimming down the use of our 6 wrs to 4 is going to help Donovan. I love Downtown Reggie Brown, but lets face it, he's looking more and more like a bust. And as for G-Lew.... well i'd be fine w/ him being de-activated for Kyle Eckel and Booker to be active. LETS GO BIRDS!

Reggie drops a lot of balls....bottom line. Last time I checked catching the ball at WR was a prerequisite. G Lew can't read a defense PERIOD. He can never seem to figure out when he is the hot because of a blitz. 2nd G Lew has 1 pattern....Fly! Give a shake and RUN!! We need more out of a WR ont his team than that. The W Coast O is intricate and precise, neither of those 2 guys are close to that. What disturbs me is in college at UGA Brown was good. He became the #1 while Fred Gibson was still there and Gibson was one of the elite SEC WR for a few years. I just dont think Reggie ever got used to the velocity of the NFL balls being thrown to him. It looks as though he doesnt get ready to "accept" the ball. Almost as if the ball sneaks up on him, the only way to explain is not being used to the velocity. THERE IS A HUGE difference between D Mac and Garcia. I dont think D Mac and Reggie have ever had a full training camp and season together. That also means a lot to a W Coast O Qb and WR.

Our Oline is one of our strengths against a Giants pass rush that was handled fairly well by the skins Sunday. If it wasn't for the fact that Jason Campbell has terrible accuracy and cannot find his 2-3 receivers when it counts the skins could have been in a position to win that game. We need Westy to get his 1 to 2 yards per carry against a tough run defense to show the pissants we are going to run. He'll break one or two and that will be the game changer. I see DMac spreading the ball around, hitting a lot of crossing routes with one or two bombs to Jackson. Spuds is correct about the spotlight on the receiver corp but I think more important will be Oline on the offensive side of the ball. Eli on his back...

is pitta a senior? he looks good but he needs to get rid of his 11 year-old shoulder pads to block in the nfl. unga looks like he could be a real good smash mouth rb. that U kicker looks like he could be drafted the first day. Y could have made a game of it if they would have run more unga and less qb turnovers.

Smarty))) Spent almost half a year in Africa. Learned some Arabic there. Lots of Muslim and Islamic stuff in Sudan and Chad. TONS up North Africa.. like say Morocco. Have some Islamic pals. They teach me some. I only know a little. But I have ordered a learning program for Arabic. I told you I'm going to your neck of the woods some day. Gotta get prepared. lol === When you told me you lived in Palestine and Kuwait... I had to run out fast at the time so I couldn't reply. I posted later but I don't think you saw it.

sounds terrible .. we need to trade at least one of our 1st draft picks.. Late First draft picks are garbage and should be traded.

I'll say this... over on the other thread... we talked the draft and needs. Last year I was terrified. Ask Bri and some others. But this year... we ae set at every position other than an Oline spot or 2. And FS and TE. Maybe a Bash RB. We have VERY MANY picks. We have 2 1st's. A 2nd. A 3rd. A 4th. 2 5th's. And we can get somethin for Litos tankin arse. === So... this draft will be fun. FA will be fun. We have something like 18 mill and the money from Runyan, Thomas and #20. Plus the 4.5 from LJ. Thats like 15 mill. We have 32 mill next year. These guys running our cap are Genius. It'll take 10 or 12 mill for the 1st 3 picks. Then change for the rest. That means we can get some good solid FA's or 1 Freak and still have the 10 mill needed to put back..... just in case. This FA and draft is goona be FUN!!! === Say we add FS Taylor Mays/Will Moore. And then Duke Robinson/Antoine Cladwell. Slide Herremans to LT. Add Chase Coffman or Dennis Pitta. And still have a 2nd or 3rd rounder to get whatever. Lots of things we can do. The sky is the limit. === How does a secondary with Mays at FS and Asomugha and Samuel at CB with Brown in the slot and Mikell sound?

Celek and LJ are the same.... but opposite. Neither gets a chance. Neither has good hands. Neither is a dominant blocker. LJ is as fast as TE's come. Celek looks like he's runnin in water. Both are decent. Both can be upgraded. We'll see how LJ finishes up. He's showin signs. But if a major happening doesn't occur. And it being the last year of his deal... I sure would like a Big Nasty TE in there for '09. === Problem with upgrading TE is.... a 3rd rounder or earlier is needed.

when the FO was trying to trade for a big time reciever they were willing to trade Reggie Brown. if we are to make any type of trade Reggie will be gone next year. He works hard , you root for him .. but he is injury prone and nothing special .. we cant be emotional when it comes to decisions like that ..

Lewis is what we know. He kinda sucks all around... but somehow makes enough big plays to hang around. Quick as they come. Decent hands. But he's the next to go... if a square is needed. Longtime EAGLE. Good b/u.

Basket best hands ?? I think not .. he has an ability to catch the un catchable ones and he struggels with the easy ones .. we all remember the preseason game where he was thrown a perfect pass and it hit him in the head and he dropped it .. but with that being said i think he has the potential of being really good with practice i say we sign him next year .. and JB how do you know those words in arabic ?

Reggie Brown has been hurt... plain and simple. Tried to come back early. On and off. But he made some big plays for us. LOTS of people hammer Reggie. Don't know why. He's a good player. But Peanut is better. Plain and simple. Best blockin WR we got. Like I said... Reggie is the best 5th WR in the NFL.

The top b/u is Baskett. Good blocker and makes incredible snags. Good size and top end speed. But gettin to that speed he's a lil slow. But most of all what stands out about him is.... he just makes the play. Got the dropsies a lil. But that shake and run Vs Bengals is just what we are missing. He brings the big play. Got a major upside to boot. Gotta like Baskett... and his wife is hot and stupid. So he's not a dummy.

Whether by injury or not. Peanut has straight won the Z spot. He makes plays and has deep speed. Got lots of things to work on..... namely he needs to quit showin the CB's the balls comin. But thats a learned thing that takes years sometimes. But the sky is the limit with this guy. Got good hands too. And by the 3rd and 23 last week shows... he can RAC.

Avant is lookin good. Makes some TOUGH grabs. My buddy was tellin me how great he was at TC. And this guy knows his WR's. Pleasant surprise. He's got decent hands and takes licks and smiles them off. Good Y.

Curtis seems to be coming around. Not too soon I might add. But he's starrting to shake that 1st guy. He's a good tough WR for that X. Drops some tho.

Alls I know is.... it's good to have Baskett and Brown behind Curtis and Peanut. Not much of a drop if something happens... imo.

"Do the Eagles have enough at wide receiver to win a Super Bowl?" Are you serious? Will the rest of the NFC lose enough so the Eagles can make the playoffs if they perform a miracle and win out? That's a serious question.

JasonRoss, in retrospect, I agree, Freddie Mitchell was better then Reggie, although Mitchell was never picked up, as far as I know, by any of the NFL teams. I'll bet it won't happen for Reggie either... I won't argue the point,as I believe he'll be released next year. Time will tell...Goodnight all... It's going to be a long week...

This is the season, "first step is the hardest." Wouldn't look past Cleveland, probably what the Giants did! They have no Q/B, with too many jobs on the line you never know what to expect... After that, momentum and reality will carry us with the Skins, and "Football at it's best for the "Wildcard," at the "Linc," against Dallas. This could be the culmination of a very interesting season...

+++ PLAYOFF SCENARIO +++ These are the facts for people who are confused, its fairly simple. ===The Eagles have to win @NYG, CLE, @WAS, DAL. Thats 10-5-1. === DAL has to lose to PHI and 1 game against @PIT, NYG, BAL. === WAS is out if PHI runs the table even if WAS won every game remaining on their schedule. === ATL has to lose 2 games out of their last 4, @NO, TB, @MIN, STL. === CAR or TB at 9-3 are likely too far ahead for PHI to catch, so figure 1 of those is division winner and the other has 1 wild card spot. === PHI has to take care of business this week and then we'll go from there but as it is today, they have a straight route to one of the wild card spots if they win all their games.

yeah this group is the best right now, but still not close to being superbowl caliber. Our best wideout is a rookie which tells you how how all the talk of reggie brown and curtis being #1 wideouts was ridiculous! He's way better than any of our wideouts as a rookie and should become a stud in the steve smith mold in a couple years. Reggie Brown is a bum and the organization dropped the ball on that one! Freddie Mitchell was way better than this dude and brown should be gone next season along with g lewis. Baskett is nice, but not sure he can get any better? Still think we need another big stud WR opposite DJack with Curtis and Avant working the slot. Boldin would be nice, but we'll see next season.

The Giants had our Run Defense, off stride last game, "It won't happen again." Time to put a beating on "Eli," like we did with "Rothlesberger." in the Pittsburg Game. McNabb, "keep it simple and don't try to get it all in one gulp." There'll be enough time and openings for that,if we get it all going. Make them count...

icon..I feel a big game from Eckel...I think he's something the Gmen will have trouble game planning for. JJ needs to really get creative with the blitz. Concentrate on somehow slowing down Jacobs and also keep Eli uncomfortable in the pocket. This would be a great time for the rotating front four to have a breakout game. And you are correct, Klecko give us the extra push for Westy. Be nie if Booker wee in the mix too. My choice would be leave LJ or Brown or both out. Dress all the backs.

The big one is the Gmen. Don't agree totally with Spuds about the passing game. Bottom line, if we don't run the ball sucessfully, we won't win. This is the BIG game..cause if we fall, all the talk about playoffs is muted. For this group of receivers to be effective we will need to keep Gmen's defense honest. And we need to run the ball to keep Eli and their 275 pound battering ram off the field.

Im not totally convinced that we can win out due to me being a realist, however I will root for my birds none the less. I will say that I honestly think if we do win out that the other pieces will fall into place after looking at the schenrios and at the schedules i posted below. If we can go thier house and beat the Giants (no matter how close or lopsided it is) Then I will believe that we can get it done against the remaining 2 teams (Yeah I know there is 3 teams after the Giants but the Borwns sucked with a starting QB, now they have a complete rookie...lol)

We need Dallas to lose 1 game (besides the one with us) and Atlanta to lose 2 games. If that happens and we win out then we WILL be the 2nd wild card team and anything can happen then. Above is there schedules and to be honest, As long as we win out I think it will happen because both Dallas & Atlanta have very tough remaining schedules all exept for Atlantas last game. Keep in mind that us winningout will give Washington its 1 loss we need them to have to hop scotch over them!

Above I will post who we need to be really rooting against (Our best shot at making the playoffs) and posting thier remaining schedules!!!
