Reid's Call: McNabb The QB Vs. Cards

There is no grey area for Andy Reid. Donovan McNabb is his starting quarterback. He made that clear in a press conference on Monday. One day after removing McNabb as the quarterback at halftime of the loss in Baltimore, Reid couldn't have been more emphatic about this decision to go back to his veteran against the Cardinals.

And beyond.

"Donovan McNabb is the starting quarterback," said Reid.

Reid stepped forward without hesitation and made his decision. No doubt he spent long hours on Sunday night reviewing what he saw in the loss to the Ravens. No doubt he wondered how in the world the Eagles could have turned the ball over nine times in two games, something Reid termed "ridiculous."

No doubt Reid understands that he has a lot of work to do right now, that the Eagles are a struggling 5-5-1 team that needs somethi good to happen to it right here, right now.

Thursday night against Arizona, McNabb is the starting quarterback, with Kevin Kolb the backup. And that's the way it is.

So we move on and hope for the best for McNabb and for the Eagles. We hope that maybe McNabb's one-half demotion is akin to the move the Phillies made when they sent struggling pitcher Brett Myers to the minor leagues. He came back a different man and a different pitcher.

Maybe a half on the sidelines provided McNabb a perspective that he needed.

The season is riding on maybes, no question about it.

There is a long list of areas that need to be worked on here, and we have discussed them and will continue to do so. The Eagles have a bunch of hurting players who have to play on a short week. They have to hope that the walking wounded can rebound and provide a spark and win a game they so desperately need to win.

McNabb gets a chance, donning a black jersey and in front of the home folks, to get his rhythm back. He lost it weeks ago and has not been able to get it in Cincinnati and then in Baltimore. Oh, he started fine, completing 6 of his first 7 passes, and then it all went south in a three-turnover second quarter.

Can McNabb do it? This is a chance, right here. Thursday is so incredibly crucial for McNabb, for the Eagles. Everyone needs to rally around him. Everyone needs to do a better job. Everyone needs to get out of this funk.

McNabb is the guy, after about 20 hours of wondering. For now, for as long as we can see, Five is alive at the quarterback position for the Eagles.

gioant.....i have seen your post and im gonna corrct you on some things. first we dont have hunt anymore we got rid of him weeks ago and picked up a lb whit i think his name was. secondly you cant say we were only good cause everyone else sucked that makes no sense and saying that lowers your eagle knowlege credability some more. from 2000-2008 three nfc teams won the superbowl (giants, rams, bucs) and the rams and bucs we almost beat to go to the superbowl they went out and won the SB and they sucked.....right??? and this time was also the pats dynasty yearsor cheating however you wanna put it, and bill cower retired he cant coach us and he wont come outta retirement after winning the SB to coach a slowly diminishing team. and bikersam you think them leaving will make our bowl run faster???? c'mon man thats not the answer. getting some more weapons on offence is the answer. jeez three horrible games and everyones jumping ship. well if thats the case bye bye Y2K eagle fans we dont need your scrutinizeing comments. Real eagle fans should know this is a bump in the road compared to the 90s decade. and lurie?? what was he a movie producer??? he bought this team......and thats about it.....and make all his damn money from all these programs and his overly priced ticketts, but wont shell out money for star players. he thinks hell hire two or three bignames (Westbrook, mcnabb, dawkins) like big actors and just have a mediocre team around them and we can win. THIS IS NO MOVIE!!!!! dish out money cheap a**!!!!! if we dont go to the playoffs this year and during the off season we get no big time WR or a FB not being a eagle fan has never crossed my mind but i will never go to the carnival nor will i dish out money for ticketts nor will i buy anymore merchandise. BOYCOTT JEFFERIE LURIE!!!!!!!!!

Ya the pressure will definally be on Mcnabb this week as he looks to rebound from his last two disappointing games. He needs to step up and get a win for the eagles, I am glad to see that Ried choose to keep him at the starting QB position. We def need a win here. Although Mcnabb has had some bad games i just dont think that he gets the credit that he derserves. I also agree that we do need to run the ball more than passing. The running gain should really open up the passing gain. Good luck Eagles!!!! Go Mcnabb!!!

Everyone has been saying since they got rid of TO get a solid reciever who doesnt cry and don will be fine.....well now our best wr is maybe a number 2 on any contending team, tight ends are a mess, and all the birds are doing is passing. To make matters worse there is no logic in the playcalling. What happened to the run opens the pass? I understand bwest and buckhalter are touch and go but why did A/R bother to trade for booker in the draft and not use him?My point is Andy Reid's head is not in the game and it is making me sick!!!!! I want to be able to eat my turkey tomarrow and have it digest.....GO BIRDS!!!!!

Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, run (I mean pound) the ball with c.buck and t.hunt. Drop chunkie butt(Andy Reid). Give Donavan one more year. I think Donavan would be good in a balanced offence, not pass happy. Please sign Mr. Bill Cowher. He knows how to play the game because he was a player. it’s the game plan that’s failed us people not the players. Our guys are not being put in the right position to win the game by the coaching staff. Chunkie butt says it after every big loss " aahhhh put this loss on me” " its my responsibility to get this team going” . How many times have we heard this? The scheme is a joke, that means coaching is a joke. Thanks for the laughs…………..

Andy Reid is a joke. Rush said it ,Donavan is good not great. He can't handle the pressure of passing it all the time. We need to run the ball. The division we are in we got to. We need B.Cowher. Andy Reid just isn’t that good. We were good when the nfc and nfc east sucked. Now we are just middle of the pack and basement in nfc east.

I would much rather see A.Reid out and #5 stay. Would you rather have McNabb learn a new system or watch antoher QB run Reid's failing system. The only other problem with Reid, other than his play calling, is his lack of BALLS! The team has no fire on offense, the team has lost all of its swagger and confidence from the early weeks of the season which included big plays and potent offensive variety. Lastly, 3rd and 1, 4th and 1, is not about play calling. Again it goes back to having some balls to make the play. Reid can't fire the boys up anymore and needs to walk away. GO BIRDS!

All I want for Christmas is A. Reid stating he is going to resign and Mcnabb is going to leave the Eagles. How many year do we have to wait until OUR Birds get back to bowl level and WIN this time?

How about getting Edge (who is on his hands and knees begging to get out of AZ) to be half of a two headed monster with BWest. It's true he hasnt done a thing in AZ, but with an O-line like the eagles have, Im pretty sure we would see the Edgerrin James of Indy. He can at least convert a 3rd and 1!! Do that, and get a decent WR that can reliably catch a pass and we are unstoppable. I say go after the other Cardinal...Anquan Boldin. I haven't completely thrown in the towel on Andy, but I agree that Bill Cower could take us to the Super Bowl...and win...Andy just seems like he doesn't care. maybe he should be benched as well....

Spodaro said "Hunt is nothing" over and over today online in his live show. Wonder why an inside guy like Spodaro said it like that, disrespectful. WHo cares really just interesting he said it. They should put Bwest and Buck on the rack for the rest of the season and let Booker or 2 guys off the street play. At least they are healthy. Why leave hobbled guys like that in there. Go get Shawn Alexander or whomever is available. Not sure if he was cut, never liked him but he'll do.

i don't know why they didn't utilize tony hunt . . . oh yeah, he got cut to make room for yet another linebacker. don't mean to be negative, but i'm frustrated that dmac is getting blamed for the offensive performance. seriously, i don't think there is a qb in the league that would look good against the ravens with literally NO running threat.

I am confident that I speak for all PHI fans; regardless of Andy Reid getting fired or not, we will always be PHI fans. And I will follow McNabb's Career whereever he is, hoping he retires with us; but if not, I will always remain a PHI fan. So for anyone threatening to quit being a PHI fan if Reid stays in PHI, you are not a true PHI fan. Just keep demanding Reid's termination, and Lurie will hear us. Dont threaten to jump ship; what team you gonna go to after PHI? And if we dont make the playoffs, by some miracle, I will be cheering for the NY Gs to take the whackboys down! Kevin McNabb

Lurie needs to call the Giants and see if he can buy Spagnola out of his contract and bring him here as the new HEAD coach for 09! He understands this game is not about finesse! He would send Marty packing and bring in an O coordinator that wants to protect the ball, get first downs, chew up clock, and watch a rested Defense dominate! You could just tell yesterday how Harbaugh really stressed protecting the ball. Andy wants to throw it all over the place ala mike martz who is exiled to SF.

Let's face it it's time for Jeffery Lurie to dig a little deeper (I take that back)a lot deeper in his pocket and get some freaking talent around McNabb or Kolb or who ever the hell is going to be our quarterback next year! The other Owners in the NFC East don't seem to have that problem. Mr. Lurie is going to have to shell out more to stay competitive period!!

I know that there are alot of McNabb haters. Lately on here though the overwhelming majority seem to be McNabb supporters. Hopefully we can all get out to the game Thurs night and Cheer our asses off when McNabb comes out of the tunnel and show him how much we love him. With that being said I hope all of us Philly faithfull boo like we've never booed before when Andy steps on to the field!

Andy Reid is a F'ing disgrace! He couldn't even be a man and tell McNabb to his face that he was pulling him out. Spadaro is a dope too he said DJack had a step on his man. No he didn't was with him stride for stride. If we had a running game you can erase that pick because it was a third and 1 and we don't have a running game. The other pick hey he made a mistake against a great defense it happens. This is McNabb's last season here. He's gonna go to a team next year and dominate and I wish the best for him. I would like to see the Eagles do bad without him and say I told you so but I'm not selfish like that. All you McNabb haters your finally getting what you want enjoy...
