I thought this thing had a built-in keyboard! Where is it?

The built-in keyboard is hidden 'behind' the panel of buttons below the screen. Grab the panel on either side (left of the key_cancel.png button, and right of the key_ok.png button) and pull down (away from the screen).

Be sure to pull it down all the way, until it 'locks,' otherwise the panel buttons will not work.

My Zaurus won't slide into the cradle!

Make sure the cover on the bottom of the device, labelled hw_sharp_io_port.gif , is opened. (Use a fingernail to grab the slot at the top of the door and pull down to open the cover. Then push the cover in, to insert it into the Zaurus.)

What are these holes on the back of the Zaurus?

The holes next to the headphone jack, on the top, and the battery door cover lock, on the bottom, are eyelets. They are for connecting straps for carrying your Zaurus on your shoulder or around your neck, or for securing it in a public display.

The hole near the center of the back of the Zaurus (about 1/3rd down the back) is a screwhole for mounting or securing the Zaurus.

Is the new SL-5500 Zaurus compatible with the Japanese MI-E21?

Though they have a similar appearance, and share much of the same hardware, they have different CPUs and architectures, and run different operating systems.

What's the difference between the SL-5000D and the SL-5500?

The SL-5000D was initially available for USD $399, was available in November 2001, has only 32MB of RAM, and has an all-plastic stylus.

The SL-5500 is the first consumer model, initially available for $499, available in March 2002, has 64MB of RAM, and has a part-metal, part-plastic stylus. It also comes with an embedded office suite from Hancom pre-installed (presentation viewer, word processor and spreadsheet).

Internally, other than the RAM size, they seem to be identical. (Software and peripherals are compatible, they physically look the same, other technical specifications are the same, etc.)

Applies to: SL-5000D / SL-5500

What does the Zaurus look like inside?

Can I do anything in order to *ensure* the content of RAM memory has been wiped clean? (Short of removing the battery and waiting a day or so...) ?

Open the battery compartment and with something like your stylus press the black, recessed button just below the battery.
