Edit 2: The game is currently scheduled for official Arcade Release in Japan on April 2009. It does look like it will be released in America, though that could change depending on the economic climate.

I am expecting (but am not entirely certain) a final trailer to come out sometime this week. I will post it as soon as I get the chance.

Edit 3: As to Mai's absence (and other viewer's favorite characters). Here's hoping that if there is a console version (which I think is likely), there will be some new characters added at that time.

I would entertain the idea that she couldn't be balanced properly to fit in the game without a major overhaul. She had been getting super cheap over the years.

If you were SNK/Playmore, then you wouldn't want your series reboot to be marred with the same bad character balance.

Though that doesn't explain Athena who was equally as broken.

I'll just go with story issues.
