Prospekt's March EP  Hear it Now

This EP collects recordings from the sessions for Viva la Vida, Coldplay's most sonically tricked-out record, but the new songs feel too conservative after Viva's world-music-laden sprawl. Though "Rainy Day" finds Chris Martin crooning brightly over strings and swelling electronics, the swooning "Glass of Water" feels heavy-handed, and the atmospheric "Prospekt's March/Poppyfields" suffers from imagistic lyrics about "people talking without speaking." Fans should download "Lost+" — featuring a great Jay-Z cameo — and skip the rest.

what do you guys expect from a magazine who constantly writes about Britney Spears and Pete Wentz? RS is a joke, DO NOT read about rock music in this rag, they are clueless, they are more like a gossip mag than a music mag.

the Jay Z song is awful...

Somebody should have told Coldplay and Jay Z that this was an embarrassment on a huge scale.

Well, this just goes to show you, once again, what Rolling Stone knows.
Now, I'll admit, I am a huge Coldplay fan. I love all of their works. Now I'm not bashing RS for giving a bad review.
I'm bashing them because they seem to hate every artist that ISN'T Bob Dylan, The Beatles, or the Rolling Stones. I don't know, that's just me.
But RS has an AWFUL taste in music.
Fuck you David Fricke.

I mean that in the best possible way.

"download the jay-z song".

Are you out of your fucking mind? It's easily the WORST 4 1/2 minutes of this uninspired, cash-grab mess. They had a full burst of steam going after a ROBTTH, but X&Y and most of Vida seems to have put it to an early death.

This "ep" should be avoided by all but the most rabid of fans.

did I mention the dreadful jay-z appearence?

Alright, this is the most off-the-mark Rolling Stone has ever been since I've been reading the magazine. "Lost+" is the worst song on this EP, and "Lovers in Japan (Osaka Sun Mix)" is no different than it's album counterpart. "Glass of Water" is Coldplay at its best. Also check out "Prospekt's Marck/Poppyfields" and ignore this RS review... they don't know what they're talking about.

i think rolling stone should not be allowed to review coldplay...
if only because chris martin cares too much about what they say..
there wouldn't be much of a problem except rolling stone seems to want to do away with everything refreshing about coldplay.
the reason i like this band has to do with the band not having ego or too much premeditation..
they're simple and heartfelt..
the best songs on here are Prospekts March and Glass of Water..
and you people praise the piece of shit Jay Z track..
thanks a lot.. now all i have to look forward to is more shitty duets on coldplays next album..
thx R.S

It is short and sweet. Glass of water is great, and the 'ringtone' song - Life in Technicolor II - is as good as anything by Arcade Fire (lynch me).

The trouble here is Coldplay itself. They suddenly turned from critical darlings to critical dartboard, within an instant. Not that they made good music. Not that they got into messes like Oasis. They came under fire for just being nice and melodic.

So now it is fashionable to lambast anything by Coldplay. Even Viva La Vida didn't get as much kudos as it deserved. No one realises that these guys wrote a song as haunting as 'Trouble' in their early twenties. And while their lyrics have been iffy, their music has always - ALWAYS - been melodic and refreshing, if not world changing. They never claimed to be mavericks, or revolutionaries, or the next Elvis Presley.

The suggestion that Lost+ is the only thing worth downloading is certainly an affront. Has the critic even listened to the EP more than once? I doubt that

oh come on! the Lost+ is nothing more than the original track with Jay-Z's nonsensical 'rapping' mixed over the top - it's a complete disaster, sounds tacked on for star power - that would be the one track to NOT download. Glass of Water is amazing, fresh and original, and the other tracks might not be as good as the Viva La Vida tracks, but certainly better than most shite out there these days
