When's the new Dashboard?

I have seen a lot about the new dashboard and can't wait 'til it comes, but I've also heard that it might not be coming to the UK which is not music to my ears. Is this unfortunate news true? If not, when will it automatically download onto our 360's?

The Xbox 360's new Dashboard will be a worldwide launch, so no need to worry about it not reaching the UK. Although Microsoft hasn't given a firm release date, we do know that the Dashboard will be up and running sometime during the fall (unless there are delays, of course). Once it's released, the Dashboard will automatically update when you log in to Live; however, Microsoft has not yet announced how to get the update if you do not have a Live account. We'll be keeping our eyes out for any news on the upcoming feature, but Microsoft has remained rather tight-lipped.

Did anybody watch any of the trailers in the XBOX Live box? Somewhere I thought they said it was going to be a purely optional download, and worries of bricking your console were uttered buy someone in the latest issue of the XBOX mag. Or maybe I was just dreaming, however it is highly anticipated and I wonder if the older consoles are up to the task of a new format..........hmmmmmmmmm

Some one right before him said microsoft copied apple ipod with the zune and is now copying nintendo with avatars. Also, forgot to mention below that for those of you without live, microsoft normally includes the dashboard updates on games that are released after the update comes out on live, so when you put in a new game you will be prompted to install the update.

I think that it's safe to assume the update will download automatically when you sign into xbox live and you will only need to get it once per xbox. Thats what they've done in the past and I don't see any reason why it would be different this time round.

Yes. :) By which I mean, yes it'll be free, it'll improve browsing for arcade games, they are trying to match & even exceed Wiis & Miis, and if you prefer the old dashboard style, that will still be used in the pop-up guide that opens when you hit the Guide button.

The "avatar" thing, is microsoft trying to match the wii or what? I like the idea. It would be cool if people with like 10,000 GS (Gaming Score) got speacial clothing or ect... stuff for your avatar. It would be saying "Good job for wasting time getting GS!!!". What do you think?
