Puppies and Heroes

Monday, December 15th, 2008

Another quick puppy video:

Also, watched a couple more episodes of Heroes (episodes 3-5), and I have to say I am enjoying it. A couple things are pretty predictable- it is clear to me that the short-haired brunette is clearly working for the “bad guys,” whoever they might be, and it is also clear that Peter is not able to fly, but is an empath (I think that is the right term), and able to use the talents of other people around him.

And, it goes without saying that it is always a solid business decision for a network show to have lots of scenes with Ali Larter prancing around like a tart in various stages of undress.

Puppy Update

Monday, December 15th, 2008

I am pleased to report the puppies are doing well, and they are being fed a steady diet of stuffed animals. I also note that their new Steeler dog collars (all Cole dogs wear them) were in place for yesterday’s game against the Ravens:

That is all.

*** Update ***

BTW, I started watching Heroes last night. I watched the first two episodes and it was pretty solid. I think I am going to give the whole first season a shot over the next couple of weeks, but I had a couple questions. What season is currently airing on NBC? Does it go down hill, and am I setting myself up for another Lost fiasco, in which I get totally into a show and then it becomes an impenetrable and unwatchable series of disjointed nonsense and I give up in disgust?

I suppose all shows are like that to some extent- I got tired of BSG after 2.5 and quit watching, and even though I loved Buffy, after she started sleeping with every vampire in sight and morphed into Buffy the Vampire Layer, it became harder to watch. Nothing was as bad, however, as Lost, which always had a premise that was hard to swallow, but rather quickly became too absurd for even tv fiction. At any rate, I suppose I will watch Heroes simply because Tawny Cypress is absurdly good looking. That will keep my attention for at least the first season.

Let the nerd fury begin.

Kind of tired and still trying to get a bunch of stuff done before the holidays, so no more from me tonight. The heating pad and ice rotation and alleve seem to be working, btw, so thanks for the advice.

Also, it appears that the Obama children were not the only ones who were promised a post-election puppy, as Joe Biden is now the owner of a new dog.

Finally, this picture just came in, and even though I have about 75 pet photos to still get out there from you all, this gets moved to the top:

I will spare you all the obligatory Ghostbusters reference.

Via LGM, the best scientific work ever:

“Research shows that the bigger allowance you get from mom and dad,” explained Andrew M. Sum, director of Northeastern’s center, “the less likely you are to work.”

No kidding…

Rescue Dogs

Friday, December 12th, 2008

Apparently, someone in another thread mentioned rescue dogs as alternatives to purchasing dogs, and my mother now feels guilty, but would like to point out that of the umpteen dogs she has had in her lifetime, these are the only two she has ever purchased. The list:

Whiskers- a Benji type mutt
Cindy- Chesapeake Bay/German Shephard cross (who paid for, but only technically, as she was 50 cents at a church bazarre
Samantha- a Dalmatian born on her farm (and quite possibly the dumbest dog to ever live)
the General- a hound mix
Kophje- a collie mix
Ajax- another Benji type mutt
Brandi- a pekinese rescue
Russell- our JRT rescue

Everyone was inherited or rescued, so she doesn’t feel terribly guilty about buying Ginny and Guesly.

Also, mom would like to know which Humane Society is associated with PETA.

All The World Is a Toy When You Are a Puppy

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

Dad sent some more pics- first up, the kids and their chew toy.

I would worry about the toy, despite the size differential. Next, a family friend gets mauled:

I am told he survived the attack and is doing well. Finally, the picture that I know will make the ladies squeal:

Guesly is very photogenic, it appears, and is always mugging for the camera. That is all for now.

Puppy Update

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

For those of you who have long whinged and moaned and complained about the kitty hegemony of this website, you are about to be inundated with pictures of teh cute in puppy form. Those of you who are uninterested in pictures of adorable Jack Russell terrier puppies are just going to have to bear with us for a while. Or you could move to China, you America hating godless communists. As has been noted before, you are either with us, or with the terriers.

Word on the street is that Guesly (pronounced Goozly), the male with black coloring, is very bold and just wants to be pet and touched and cuddled. Ginny, the brown one, is a little shy, but reliable sources have told me that she is actually the ornery one. Apparently she runs around and investigates, finds things to get into, Guesly then joins her, she loses interest, and Guesly is left holding the ball. From my own personal experiences with women and in particular with sisters, this story resonates.

Also, we had our first accident this morning, and on an Oriental rug. One last thing- several of you seem to be under the impression that I have seen the dogs. I have not. While the strongly held belief is that most bloggers are in fact writing from their parent’s basement wearing pajamas, I have not lived at home since I was 17 (and considering what an insufferable bastard I was as a teenager, that was a good thing). My parents are just gushing, and are already madly in love with their new pups.

At any rate, more pics later on today, I am assured, so you ill get another fix this afternoon.

Rumor on the street is that my parents now have two adorable Jack Russell terriers in their possession. I still think they have lost their minds, but I guess after the K-12 raising me, everything looks easy.

Their names- Ginny and Guesly (GOOZLY). Pics when I get some.

Crazy old people.

My Dog Says Your Dog is Cute

Sunday, December 7th, 2008

My girl, Charlotte, says hi. (Actually, now that I look at this picture, she looks like she is pissed that she is getting her picture taken.)

And this is a picture of our next door neighbor, Sophie, a Golden. Charlotte is a people dog. She does not like other dogs. The only exceptions are this one and a neighbor’s Irish Setter.

I’m on day 10 of quitting smoking, and it sucks. But then, smoking sucks worse, so I will get through it. Went to a Christmas part last night where several people were smoking and managed! Wish me luck. I am sucking on Commit Lozenges like you wouldn’t believe. Fortunately for my wallet, my employer pays for them! I have an awesome employer. I am one of those few people who not only enjoys his job, but also the oppressive corporate overlords he works for!

UPDATE: DAMN!! A lot of you are ex-smokers. I didn’t realize I was in such good company!! Congrats to all of you!!

Friday Night Open Thread

Friday, December 5th, 2008

Can’t figure out what I want to do this evening, although since I have already missed happy hour, my options are kind of limited. At any rate, someone sent in this pic of a tongue with a dog attached, stating I should adopt it:

If Bill the Cat was a dog, he would look like that. Also tonight, my friend sent me a picture of her kitty, and has been yelling at me for two days for not posting it:

At any rate, here is an open thread.

And Now For Something Completely Different

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

I got so excited earlier talking about corned beef and cabbage that I went to the store to buy some. Got there, and the corned beef was ridiculously expensive (I remember when it was $7 for a cut, the cheapest today was $20, so I went with a ham hock). Some carrots, some potatoes, a cabbage, the ham, and some parsley, and dinner is cooking as I write this. It smells so good. I love this meal, and it is soooo cheap, too.

At any rate, some pet pics, since it has been a while, some kitties:

And so I am not accused of anti-dog prejudice, this filthy and happy hound:

For a second, I was horrified when I thought that fellow was sitting on carpet, but it looks like he is actually on concrete. At any rate, claim your pets, folks.

My Parents Have Taken Leave of Their Senses, and I Blame Adorable Puppies

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

My parents, who I am not sure are aware what they are getting themselves into, have passed the grieving phase since the loss of Russell, and have now made the rational decision to get a Jack Russell puppy while they are in their late 60’s.

Scratch that. The nutters are getting two of them, they are completely out of their damned minds, and every child has told them so. Here are the potential culprits:

They are getting two of the above litter. Christmas will be… interesting. The only one I know we are getting for sure is hidden in the back in the top photo, but down on the far left with a completely black face in the second photo.

Apparently I was wrong. The puppy we are getting for sure is front and center with the black face and a white stripe running down his nose. He also has the fullest coat, which means he will be a long hair for sure (YAY!).

Because I Care

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

I have been accused of having a deep bias towards cats, and I must confess, it is true. But Tammy sends along another picture of her pooch, so maybe this will be some balance.

What to do for dinner….
