Now Playing (02/12/08)
Oh no! Time has flown and I can't even believe it is December already. The last of the huge weeks of releases is here and it is the last chance for publishers to get their trailers out before the masses head to do their Christmas shopping.

This week we are heading back to Persia in time for the games release. One of my Final Fantasies comes back in a new game. There is a Storm rising over Project Origin and games considering this their Alpha Protocol. Lastly we get a little Roco in a crazy sequel.

Quantum of Solace (PS3 Review)
Fans of James Bond may well have been tempted to drop into their local gaming shop after the movie theatre, to pick up a shiny new copy of Quantum of Solace, the latest game based on the franchise.

While the "new Bond" is receiving some mixed reviews for his gadget-less, violent interpretation, it seems that the new game is getting a similar response. Matt Keller recently sat down with Mr. Bond, playing the PS3 version of the game and sharing his thoughts.

...if you'd like to know a little more behind-the-scenes on the game, don't forget our exclusive interview with co-designer/directors Jeremy Luyties and Adam Gascoine.

Grand Theft Auto IV for PC - Uncut version heading Down Under
Rockstar Games just can't keep out of the news. The PC version of Grand Theft Auto IV is looming this week, and - just like with the console versions, there's been a bit of a furore over censorship.

Despite the fact that Australia (and New Zealand) got an edited version of the console title, a spokesman for the publisher has this week publicly announced that "The PC game is unedited in any way and identical in content to the international version." But... how can that be? We've gotten our hands on the reports from the Classifications Board to try and shed some light on the topic.

Can BioWare save us with The Old Republic? It’s been a great year for MMOG gamers but it’s time to look to the future, to the next big MMORPG that tantalizes and is most anticipated on the release horizon.

Two months after the game was officially unveiled, BioWare is already vying for the contentious spot. There’s no release date, no leaked movies, or secret design thesis to ponder over but for hungry fans looking for any scraps you will be happy to feed off the first batch of screenshots after the break.

Dungeon Keeper to be revived - in MMO format for Asian market
Electronic Arts control a large amount of intellectual property when it comes to iconic gaming history. One such tidbit is the Dungeon Keeper license, which was spawned in 1997 by Peter Molyneux and the now defunct Bullfrog Productions.

As an RTS, Dungeon Keeper spawned a legion of loyal fans with its unique gameplay and shift from ubiquitous heroism to evil. Today, a Chinese company by the name of NetDragon has announced that they've licensed the Dungeon Keeper IP from EA, with intentions to produce a MMO entitled Dungeon Keeper Online based on the franchise.

Tomb Raider Underworld - Eidos fixes Thailand lever bug
Every now and then, games are released that are a little bit buggy. I know that, you know that, and the publishers know that. The latest example is the Wii version of Tomb Raider: Underworld, which doesn't arrive in Australia until December 4th.

Apparently, there's an "extremely infrequent" bug in the game, which is known to affect a lever in the Thailand level. Publishers Eidos have extended a sincere apology to anybody who's been affected by this bug and have released a downloadable gamesave, for both PAL and NTSC versions.

Each week, we collate the most popular stories that we published over the past seven days, plus a lineup of the most downloaded files added in the same timeframe. That way, in case you missed something, you can catch up in one helpful little spot, every Monday morning.

Understandably, our most-read story last week was the breaking news that F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin had been Refused Classification in Australia, but it wasn't all doom and gloom, with the Games On Net Mo-riffic Movember Awards coming right up behind.

This week, we've tried something a little bit different - let us know what you think!

MotorStorm: Pacific Rift (PS3 Review)
With the PlayStation 3 celebrating its second birthday earlier this month, it's only fitting that its two flagship titles should get their sequels at the same time. Today though, we're just looking at one of them - MotorStorm Pacific Rift, which promises to take the series even further off-road, into some new and exciting settings.

Stepping into the driver's seat today is Matt Williams, who's strapped on his seatbelt and produced a brand spankin' new review for us - well worth a read if you're thinking about some next-gen dirty racing action.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 (Xbox 360 Review)
Whether you call it football or soccer, the world game has been inspiring designers almost since sprites were made to dance on a video screen. Pro Evolution Soccer 09 is the latest in a long line of games based on the great sport - and developers Konami also have a lengthy, chequered past when it comes to this genre.

Matt Keller got out on the field with the rest of the team, and spent some dedicated hours getting grass stains on his controllers. Once he worked out he'd be better off plugging it into the Xbox 360 instead, he came up with this review.

WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009 (Xbox 360 Review)
Historically speaking, THQ's wrestling games have always sold well. Their newest, WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2009 is already tearing up the charts on every platform it was released on - following in the footsteps of 2008 and 2007, famously the highest-selling game of 2006 despite only being released in November.

Matt Keller recently stepped into the ring, to go a few rounds with Yuke's latest... and he's still as confused as ever as to how these games can continue to sell so well, year after year.

Australian Weekly Video Game Charts - Week Ending 23/11/08
Mostly, with these weekly charts, I am the bearer of good news. I bring you information that a great new game has topped the national sales, or that an underdog has made it to #1 despite the odds being stacked against them. This week, I'm afraid I can't do that.

...while I am pleased to see that a certain zombie-huntin' co-op title has made it to #6 and #7 for PC and Xbox 360 respectively, the PS2 game that picks up top honours this week almost makes me ashamed to be a gamer.

In other news - the PC charts are still dominated by a wrathful monarch, the Xbox 360 hears the distant rev of chainsaws and the PS3 is heeding the call of duty once again. While the Wii is again concerned with body image, the DS prefers to train their mental abilities, and the PSP gets in a bit of wrestlin'.

Stormrise - Console RTS Dev Diary from Down Under
Okay - I'm sure I'm not alone when I say that it's really refreshing to hear an Australian voice when watching various making-of game videos. Mortal Kombat: The Unlocked Phrases
Everybody knows that guy from Mortal Kombat, right? The one who urges you to "Finish Him!" as you approach victory? ...what if you could get him to say something else?

Maxim magazine recently spent some time with the man himself - Hernan Sanchez (a 10-year veteran of video game voice acting), as part of Midway's promotions of the newest title in the series, Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe. And - honestly - who can forgive them for handing the guy a microphone and asking him to pronounce a few different catch-phrases? You all wanted to hear him suggest that "Maybe You Should Play Something Else", right? What about "Tickle Him!"? ...well, now you can, with this new soundboard.
