I think I am supposed to be skeptical, react to this like I did when Donato Dalrymple said he might seek higher office. But no, listening to the man speak, Joe Wurzelbacher is for real.

He told radio talker and fellow cancer survivor Laura Ingraham today that he might run for Congress in 2010. Against Ohio Democrat Marcy Kaptur.

Ingraham herself said she would immediately volunteer for his campaign and help him with campaign advertising and PR. Meanwhile, the National Republican Congressional Committee said they would welcome Wurzelbacher's candidacy with "open arms.”

"We support Joe the Plumber and people like him everyday with our support for lower taxes and energy independence," NRCC spokesman Ken Spain said.

Kaptur's office responded by blaming Joe the plumber for recent layoffs at the local Jeep plant.

It looks like conservative populism is here to stay, and it is definitely something the party wants to encourage in the future. Grassroots activism. (There is a community blog designed for this sort of thing, but I, oh I forget its name offhand.)

I'd give you the URL at which to donate to Wuzelbacher's campaign, but it does not exist yet. I'll be back with you on this in a year or so.

If we want better government, we need to get some ordinary people in office. We need to stop whining about the elitism of all the doctors and lawyers on the Hill and start sending some plumbers, roofers, small business owners, accountants, breeders (dogs, horses, whatever), stevedores, etc., etc., etc., to the Hill.

"It is getting harder and harder to find suicide bombers. And all the really good ones are gone."

  2. NRCC support, ha

Considering the NRCC will start the next cycle in debt that it will take three times as long to pay off as the Democrats.. I don't think they're going to have resources by Nov 2010 to invest in a challenger against a strong incumbent (who will be able to outspend him like crazy).

We'd have to welcome him with open arms, screw the NRCC.

    1. Not necessarily,

Doesn't the RNC have oodles of cash it's sitting on? I've wondered if the powers that be in the RNC are writing off this cycle and retaining their massive cash advantage to get an early start on 2010. The RNCC and RSCC have been outdone by their Dem counterparts in this cycle, but if you take into account RNC/DNC receipts, the Republicans still have the cash advantage (since Obama's stated he's not transferring his funds to other downticket races, his $150M September won't affect this). Consider that Howard Dean burned through a lot of the DNC's cash on his 50 State Strategy and party building, the RNC's cash advantage is stark. Honestly, I feel like the RNC seems to be trading off electoral victory in 2008 as to come out gangbusters for 2010.

I want to know if he can demonstrate a working knowlege of the Constitution, and if not, if he would be willing to instruct himself in it's meaning.

I strongly concur that we need more real people in Washington, but only a commitment to the Constitution will prevent them from becoming one of the current socialist crowd already there.

Constitution as written and amended, as well as the intent of its authors, better than many of the Congress critters in DC today, who seem to want to make the Constitution into an imaginary document which is all things to all people rather than a compact enumerating specific powers.

  4. Kaptur Is Another "Catholic" Representative

    Strelnikov (link)

I lived in Toledo for 25 years (nice place!) and Kaptur played the Catholic-Union vote like Weird Al's Accordion. You recognized the tune, but the lyrics were different every time, depending on the audience. Republicans gave up trying to find sacrificial turkeys to throw against her, even though her duplicity about the morality of her stances is easily exposed and explained.

Of course, one of the benefits is that she can claim Toledo would be throwing away her seniority in Congress and her ability to "help" Toledo more with that seniority.

During her tenure, Toledo has lost 70,000 people. So much for her status in Congress helping her constituency.

If Big Brobama is elected, the Code Words will be: "Klaatu - Borada - Nikto!"

    1. Kaptur is my congressman..

      KeepOhioRed (link)

...though I moved here recently from the next county so dont know much about her, except that she has been in office for like 8 terms now and has won her last few by 30% or more.

I can say, that there are quite a few Kaptur yard signs around for her (the Obama houses of course, which are outnumbered by McCain 10-1 in my piece of the sticks.) I never seen one for the token republican, who has run against her before. So she obviously has built an organization, and the GOP doesnt have one in this district.

However, except for Toledo, the district is largely rural, so its possible with a good candidate.

I know this because I've been playing this "what if" game about running for congress myself. I'm just a regular person, BS in engineering.

Anyway, we'd need to know a little bit more about Joe, totally agree with Tim Boyer above. But if he truly could check out, I'd love to vote for Joe in 2010.

I heard Joe is going to be on Cavuto tomorrow and there will be a special announcement. Exclusive. (10:00 ET)

Joe just spoke on Cavuto.....he is "considering" a run for Congress. He has not been contacted by the RNC. Others, however, have spoken to him. He said he will think about it and anything he does wouldn't be until the next run.

    1. That may say more about Drudge than anything else....

      MMan (link)

Drudge breathlessly put the now discredited "Attack" story from Pittsburgh in big red letters on the top of his website. Drudge can be a good link source, but he loves to put up tabloid style headlines just to get attention.

  8. If Obama Is Elected Everybodies Taxes Will Go Up

    hannibalmoformccain (link)

Did you know that Obama has said that he will cancel the 2001 tax cuts. That means for example that a family of four making 40,000.00 a year will see a tax increase of $1,100.00. The tax rates are as follows. See where you fit. Increases of 15% to now what is 10%, 28% to now what is 15%, 31% to now what is 25%, 36% & 39.6% to what is now 33%. This means that your tax bracket will go up in 2 years with Obama straight across the board to everyone.... ....McCain will Keep the Tax Cuts. Click Here

  9. Where can I send a donation?

    CaliforniaGOP (link)

Please keep us posted on this and don't forget that URL. I want to contribute to "Joe the Plumber's" campaign.
