Netball

  • During the competitive part of the season, which runs between October to April, the squad meets for regular match and training weekends which prepares the girls for the ultimate competition of the season, The Inter Services against the RAF and the Army.

The Open Team (1st Team) has been entered into the new Sub Regional League South for the 06/07 season which will ensure that some very high standard of Netball is guaranteed during the training weekends.

There are normally 10/11 training weekends and the occasional mid-week fixture all of which will take place at a Service establishment or a County training court. A normal training weekend will normally consist of a combination of core skill and fitness training together with matches on the Saturday and Sunday.

We welcome all players who have a reasonable grounding in the game of Netball and who are keen to improve their game and aspire to represent the Royal Navy. The idea of maintaining the Development Team is to encourage those players who may not have the experience or skill to merit a place in the Open Team but who have the potential to push for a place with better coaching and training than they would normally get. The major change to the Inter-Services for this season is the inclusion of Development Team games. The tournament will be over three days and both teams will play against the RAF and Army during that time.

The RNNA has had a number of successful tours to Netball playing countries and in recent years has visited Australia, Barbados, Malta, Belgium and most recently (2003), Trinidad and Tobago. The RNNA will tour South Africa in 2006 and arrangements are already well underway. The Tour Squad has not only selected from those players who have represented the RN at the Inter-Services but also to those who have shown commitment and potential throughout the season
