The Trip to Sesshu Exhibition

In November 2006, the Yamaguchi Prefectural Art Museum held an exhibition titled "The Trip to Sesshu," commemorating the 500th anniversary of the Zen monk and painter Sesshu's death. We created the posters, flyers, tickets, catalogue and graphics for this exhibition. As our main visual we used Sesshu's masterpiece, the Shikisansui(Landscapes of the Four Seasons), a 16-meter long scroll that has been designated a national treasure. By extracting parts of the scroll and then covering portions of what we selected with black ink, we aimed to attract visitors curious to see what the ink concealed. In all of the materials, we aimed at a travel poster or postcard effect different from the usual sorts of materials produced by museums.
