School of Medicine Financial Aid

This office acts as a liaison for medical students with the main campus financial aid office. 

HOW TO APPLY

Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by February 28, 2009.  The Department of Education school code for the University of Washington is 003798.  Students may apply online at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/

2009-2010 Prospective Students

  • Financial aid deadlines apply regardless of admission status.  It is recommended that students apply by February 15, 2009 to assure they will meet the on-time deadline.  Late applicants are considered for Direct Stafford subsidized and unsubsidized loans.  Students applying for the SOM scholarship will be required to provide parental information on their FAFSA regardless of their independent status.
  • 2009-2010 revision request forms will be available in late March or early April 2009.

2008-2009 Information

    Autumn Quarter 2008 Information:

    • Autumn quarter tuition due: 10/10/08 Last day for SOM short term loans with no charge: 12/11/08 (promissory notes need to be signed the following day)
    • Last day for on-line short term loan with $30 service charge: 12/12/08
    • Last day of official Autumn quarter: 12/12/08 

    Winter Quarter 2009 Information:

    • Direct Deposit for Winter quarter begins the night of 12/30/08. **Remember it takes two to three working days for the direct deposit to get to your bank account. 
    • Winter quarter tuition due: 1/16/09
    •  Last day for SOM short term loans with no charge: 3/19/09 (promissory notes need to be signed the following day)
    • Last day for on-line short term loan with $30 service charge: 3/20/09
    • Last day of official Winter quarter: 3/20/09
    • Last day of 2nd year Winter quarter: 3/13/09
    • Last day of Seattle 1st year Winter quarter: 03/20/09

    Spring Quarter 2009 Information:

    • First day of 2nd year Spring quarter: 03/23/09
    • First day of Seattle 1st year Spring quarter:  03/30/09
    • First day of official Spring quarter:  03/30/09

    Scholarship Information

    • UW SOM Scholarship   This is a need based scholarship.  Students must provide parental information on their FAFSA and attach a SIGNED copy of parent's 2007 tax return (with all attachments) to their scholarship application.  Applications are available in T-557. The deadline is May 31, 2009.   
    • Bernice Cohen Sachs, M.D. Scholarship  This scholarship is available to female students enrolled in medical school.  You must be affiliated with Group Health, demonstrate financial need and involvement in the community.  Applications are available in T-557 and at http://www.ghc.org/about_gh/memberparticipation/scholarships.jhtml.   The deadline is May 16, 2008.
    • Pisacano Scholarship   This scholarship is awarded to students interested in pursuing family practice and who will be entering their fourth year of medical school.   Please visit the website for more information.  This scholarship is not based on need.  Applications are available at http://www.fpleaders.org/.     
    • Helen S. Davis Scholarship  This scholarship is awarded to residents of Montana. It is based on need and parents' financial resources are considered.  Scholarship amounts vary, but have ranged from $1,000 to $7,000 per year.  Applications are available by mail at Wells Fargo Bank, NA, Private Client Services,  P.O. Box 597, Helena, MT  59624-0597. The deadline is May 30, 2008. 
    • 2008 Washington State Health Professional Scholarship Program   This scholarship is for students who are training to be primary care professionals.   In return, participants agree to provide primary care health service in rural or underserved urban areas with designated shortages.  Applications are available in HSB T-577 or at  http://www.hecb.wa.gov/paying/waaidprgm/health.aspThe deadline is April 30, 2008.
    •  St. Vincent Health Care Thomas R. Johnson, MD Memorial Scholarship  This scholarship is available to 2nd year medical students who have graduated from a Montana High School.  Applications are available in T-557. The deadline is April 1, 2008.
    • Doyne M. Green Scholarship   This scholarship is for female students who are Washington residents.  Students must have completed at least their first year and   demonstrate financial need.  Applications are available at http://www.collegeplan.org/cpnow/pnwguide/onlineaps/dmgonap.htm.  The deadline is March 31, 2008.
