Good news today. As you may have noticed, there are currently no official FBA servers online. This FBA-less time
is over now. We are now cooperating with Lan-Festivus.com.
There we got a new Server and also a brand new Forum.
One of the reasons why we lost the servers was an annoying bug which caused some servers to crash after some time. This bug doesn't seem to appear anymore with the latest Pointrelease 1.31, so we strongly recommand
to update your version of Q3A.

The German game magazine GameStar released a special issue this month. Apart from several Unreal and Half-Life MODs and Maps the only Quake III Arena MOD you can find on the Cover CDs is FreakBall!! There's also a little article about FBA inside the magazine. For the Quake Community we hope there will be more Quake-related stuff in german game magazines now as there still exists right-problems with banned-in-germany games =)
Apart from this we are still trying to find the bug that causes FBA servers crash from time to time. As it seems the bug appears randomly it is hard to figure out what exactly causes it. If someone got an idea on this please mail us.

Here it is you all waited for so long time. v1.0 of Freakball is out!! We worked on it very hard and even harder in the past weeks. The last files had been edited this morning and after a last quick test packed together to make their way through the www. =)
You can download FBA v1.0 either as a pure ZIP or as a windows executable including an installer. Both archives contain the same files, so it doesn't matter which one you grab. You will also need the latest PointRelease 1.29h. I uploaded the archives to fileplanet.com and also to extreme-players.de. The archives at fileplanet might not be mirrored yet. If so, check them at eXp.
I also updated the Screenshots section with shots from the last online test and with some shots of the new maps you will find in FBA.

Update : To load the dll with the mp3 player you maybe will need to add some lines to your .cfg file, or just edit the autoexec.cfg inside your /freakball dir. When using the qvm, you will only listen to the standard Q3A soundtrack.

This weekend the last test took place. We only found minor bugs which are fixed now. We are now putting everything together. The last thing which still has to be done is the readme =)
Several authors from different news sites joined the test. You can find some exclusive shots over at www.q3center.com. Apart from this there is a large preview at www.extreme-players.de. If you understand german, check this Site. If not check it nevertheless =)

I think I shell tell you something about the new features you will find in FBA v1.0. Let's start with the new and enhanced menu. There are totally new Main and Ingame Menus. The Mainmenu is partly animated =). Within the ingame menu there is a new voting system, based on TA's one. We added a new FBA Server filter to easily choose between the available servers.
Let's talk a little bit about the often discussed RPG system. Some people thought it could make the game harder to play and disturb the gameplay or to make a class-based-mod out of FBA. First of all, you won't have to choose a class, nor you'll have to give gained points to different abilities like in normal RPGs. Which abilities will raise or fall completely depends on how you act in the game. E.g. if you only run for goals and forget kicking your enemies about this, you will get more force but loose speed, to make it harder for you to reach the goal to do a touchdown. The other way round, if you only run around killing people without shooting goals, you will get faster and faster, but you will also loose your healthpoints faster, so you'll also get killed much easier....
Of course you will also find some new maps in v1.0 including one done by Kit Carson. Currently I'm recompiling all of the beta 1 maps and also the new ones. 9 maps are already completely done. 3 more are still in the pipe, but shell be finished until september 26. For each level there will be a little video in the menu you can watch to choose the map you wanna play.
As already mentioned months ago we included a mp3player. The player would also be able to play your Audio CDs, but currently this feature is still a little bit buggy so it might not be included in v1.0.
The mp3player was included to make it possible to include a soundtrack. This one is according to Dayta already done, but as he is very rare of time at the moment and so nearly never online we currently only got 3 of the tracks. We hope to get the rest of them soon. Apart from this Techno/House Soundtrack there will be some more Hardrock tracks included in v1.0. These will come from drinkfist's band which is also named drinkfist =)
Apart from all this we of course also worked on the bugs of beta 1. So the "ball-hanging-in-wall" bug and some ball-catching bugs are gone.
I think this shell be enough for today to make you hot on FBA v1.0 .... let's see what's coming next *gGg*

Big News Today!!
We are working days and nights on new features, maps and tweaking severaly things... ok maybe we are working more nights as
days.... but who cares.. =). We decided we don't want to let you wait for much more longer now for the 1.0 Release of FBA, so we set ourselves a deadline. Otherwise we would add more and more things and forget releasing the stuff about that.
Well many words short story :
FreakBall Arena v1.0 will be released on SEPTEMBRE 26 !!!!
And of course it will be 100% compatible to 1.29. Expect more news about features and maps soon on this Site

The Point Release 129 is out and we still don't have a new version out? can this be? ... well maybe this shouldn't be, but it's the way it is. But no problem. we are now rewriting the hole mod to work with 129h. We had been able to remove some bad bugs we had in the last version for 127.
We again got a new coder who is working day and night on the source. We don't plan to release another beta. The next version which will go to the public will be v1.0, which doesn't mean there won't be further releases. We plan to release at least some map packs after v1.0.
...oh yes... we got a new homepage design =)

One little update, guys.
Some players told me, they wanted to play FBA but there are no servers !
You know we're working hard on the new beta and that the old beta runs only with PR 1.17.
Now I've started a poll in the "Wishes & Suggestions" Forum, if you guys want us to organize
some servers running on PR 1.17, you can play on till the next Beta will be released.

No - we are still not dead *and* Yes - we are still working on the next version of FBA.
Within the past few weeks nobody really had much time to do something for FBA. The reason were the
final exams from Hunter, Overheat and me. Lucholaf now goes to university, so he also didn't had much
time to code.
We also reorganized nearly the hole team. Valour, Ridicule and Telcanty have left the team (if we
can call it like this..). Admin doesn't seem to be interested in the project anymore, but we found
a new Coder : Overheat. The Team is now much smaller, but I hope it will be more efficient this way.
Enough text for today : let's do some freaking work for this MOD !!!

Some weeks no news again, so here are some brand new shots of my latest map. Nearly all used
textures are from HFX, so credits go to him!
There seems to be some problems with the bots.
We will need to recompile some of the maps because bspc isn't able to create aas files for
all of them. We will check out where this error comes from, but this will again take us some time,
so we will continue work on the bots after beta 2 is released. First of all we want to release
beta 2 very soon, because we kept you waiting for it already very long. We are really sorry about this. But as you might have noticed, the Team is currently a little bit short of active members.
This is one reason why it already took us so much time...

Please welcome our new Member HuNt3R !! He will do the main part of the modelworks from now on, and will
also do some skinning etc. He hasn't been involved in any other project yet, but to proof you this
guy knows what he is doing, you can take a look on the new balllauncher he is currently working
on.

The new UI is finally done. Some small GFX are still missing, but these will be done soon. We used
the menu scripting system of TA, but rebuilt huge parts of
the original. Next the ingame-menu will be redone, which should be done already really soon.
In fact we planned to release Beta 2 within February, but currently we are all very short of time,
so you'll have to keep on waiting for the next release. As soon as Beta 2 will be released, there'll
also be a League up for FBA. Currently the Site of the league is completely redone. If you are
interested, keep an eye on the messageboard.

We are also working on a completely new UI. In fact we wanted to switch over to the new TA system
later with Beta 3, but as work is going quite fast at the moment, we decided to include the new
system already now. The menu is based on the TA menu scripting system and is much more User-friendly
then the old one I think, 'hope you'll like it...

Yes, we are still alive =) ... Sorry for the lack of news during the past few weeks.
I just tested the new qvms of the next beta (yes, they are for 1.27 =) and there are only some
minor bugs to fix. I hope we'll be able to release beta 2 within February, but we gurantee for nothing...
We are also experimenting with bot support a little bit. It's not really working yet, as it is very
basically. But i hope Admin and Lucholaf will get it working *g*.
The new beta will include at least the BasketBall map. Currently I'm working on another map using textures from HFX's evil texture pack 6. I think i'll get it ready for the next release... but again, I gurantee for nothing =)
