The overall objective ICEMON is to implement a coherent European operational oceanography system for the high latitudes, consisting of sea ice, meteorological and oceanographic services

News: Envisat ASAR Global Mode Composite Ice Drift
A first attempt of automatic 2-day ice tracking has been performed on global mode composites by met.no. The resolution of the ice drift grid is thus 50 km (25 x 2 km) and presented as flags in the sample product. The coverage is limited to the area covered each of the three days (day 1,2 and 3) covering the 2-day ice drift from day 1 to day 3.

News: Envisat ASAR global mode mosaics
ESA has now released Global SAR Monitoring mode data from its ENVISAT ASAR instrument, covering significant areas of the Arctic every day without the need for product scheduling. ICEMON produce these daily in a range-normalised mosaic form for its users.

Protecting the vulnerable Arctic environment

The Arctic consist of large diversity of populations and earth environments. The common denominator is a harsh climate that carries high cost of operations and environmental damage. It also serves as an indicator of the future of the global climate, which are heavily influenced by the Arctic sea ice cap.
Earth observation from remote sensing satellites are the near past and future of taking care of this sensitive heritage

Applying the best methods to support the growing user needs

New remote sensing satellites requires new methods to be developed. ICEMON is continously looking for better ways to monitor the earth to support the need of the users. The ICEMON consortium consist of partners from the scientific community with a wordwide contact base to ensure that all possible algorithms and data sources are evaluated. The delivery of services are secured through partners from the operational community. All ICEMON partners are conserned with growing the worldwide user base, and getting feedback from the users about future requirements.
