The University of Washington School of Medicine is committed to exemplary graduate medical education. Consistent with the GME mission, GME programs sponsored by the UW School of Medicine are designed to produce skillful physicians with ingrained habits of life-long learning and well-formed ethical and professional modes of practice. The UW School of Medicine offers 85 ACGME-accredited residency and clinical fellowship programs, two ABOG-approved fellowship programs, and dozens of other non-accredited specialty training programs. For more information about each of our programs, see our list of the Residency and Clinical Fellowship Programs.
Each year, approximately 1100 residents conduct their residency or fellowship training at UW’s primary training sites, which include the University of Washington Medical Center, Harborview Medical Center, Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center, and the Veterans Affairs Puget Sound Health Services. Numerous other community hospitals and clinics in Seattle and the greater WWAMI region also serve as training sites for our residents and fellows.
The GME Office
The GME Office is responsible for the administrative oversight and academic quality of UW’s residency and clinical fellowship programs. We work with program directors and coordinators to ensure compliance with the policies, rules, and/or regulations of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), University, UW Medicine and UW School of Medicine (SOM).
We are dedicated to serving our residents, fellows, program coordinators, and program directors. Please contact any of us in the GME Office if you have any questions or concerns, or would just like to chat about graduate medical education at University of Washington!
Verification of Post-Graduate Training
Verification of post-graduate training (including internships, residencies and fellowships) is completed by the Office of Graduate Medical Education or by the training program. To ensure accuracy of the verification, please provide the full name, social security number, training program and dates of training of the resident/fellow. In addition, you may also contact the program directly.
