Welcome to the Encyclopedia of Alabama! EOA is an ever-growing, comprehensive source of information on the state's history, culture, geography, and environment. It is the collaborative effort of a group of committed organizations and sponsors. Planning for EOA began in 2001 under the leadership of the University of Alabama Press and the Alabama Humanities Foundation. Auburn University joined the project in 2003 and hosts EOA's editorial offices and servers. The Alabama Humanities Foundation holds copyright to EOA's original content. Many sponsors support EOA, most recently the Alabama Department of Education and the University of Alabama. For an introduction to EOA's content, please read historian Wayne Flynt's essay on Alabama.
