Patriots begin life without Brady by stifling Favre, Jets
Matt Cassel was efficient running the offense in his first NFL start, taking over for the injured quarterback and leading the Patriots over Brett Favre and the New York Jets 19-10 on Sunday.

Reassessing the AFC East after Tom Brady's injury - South Florida Sun-Sentinel

Sep. 10--Since the start of the 2001 season, Tom Brady has won 87 games as a starting quarterback. During that same span, the Jets, Dolphins and Bills have won 54, 50 and 46 games, respectively. Now that Brady is out for the season with a knee injury, what will it take to end the Patriots' five-year reign atop the AFC East? Or for New England to make it six?

Patriots report: Inside slant
The game plan is no longer as simple as handing off to Tom Brady, sending Randy Moss deep down the field on a post route and watching the dynamic duo work its magic

Patriots report: Strategy and personnel

Patriots report: Notes, quotes
--Matt Cassel looked sharp in his first NFL start, completing 16 of 23 passes for 165 yards

Brady out for a season - NY Post

FOXBOROUGH - The Patriots have come back from injuries before, winning three Super Bowls and reaching a fourth despite losing Rodney Harrison, Richard Seymour, Junior Seau and Drew Bledsoe.

Report: Brady out for the season - NY Post

FOXBOROUGH - Tom Brady is expected to miss the rest of the 2008 season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, a source familiar with the injury said last night.

They're minus MVP, but you can't subtract Pats from AFC East equation
Seriously, now, did you think the Patriots would expect Matt Cassel to be Tom Brady? Instead, the new QB gets help from his friends in the backfield as New England serves notice that it's very much a factor in the AFC East, Clark Judge says.

Brady hunch: Without Tom Terrific, you just might root for Pats
The transition from irritatingly perfect to Little Engine That Could is as simple as going from Tom Brady to Matt Cassel at QB. Gregg Doyel says the Pats are now a -- gasp! -- underdog story we can enjoy.

Belichick's not on IR, so don't count Pats out
As far as Clark Judge can tell, it wasn't coach Bill Belichick the Patriots put on injured reserve Monday. So while they'll have to make do with Matt Cassel as their quarterback, they might just do it -- with more running and less passing.

Injured Brady shows up for Patriots QBs meeting
Tom Brady, out for the season with a knee injury, is still trying to help his teammates win games.

Patriots sign QB Gutierrez from practice squad
The New England Patriots signed quarterback Matt Gutierrez from their practice squad and released wide receiver C.J. Jones on Saturday.

A lot of you guys are talking all high and mighty after beating the lowly Jets. I know Jets fans got their panties in a bunch after Brady going down but the fact of the matter is the Jets are still pathetic as ever. New England's only competition in the division is Buffalo.

If I were a Pats fan I wouldn't feel all to gr ...(more)

I don't want to see him get hurt or anything but next to a Pats win, seeing him get knocked around is my favorite thing about football.

Go Vikes!

I knew they would knock him around today!

Much has been mentioned about the supposed demise of the Patriots.  The Patriots less Tom Brady are still a very good team.  Matt Cassel has done a nice job so far.  He will continue t ...(more)

Imo, I think the Pats win 24-13.

Im counting on AD, Vrabel and Crable to be rushing the passer alot, some guy named Brett Favre. You may have heard of him, I have not .

I also think Hobbs pulls an INT down and ...(more)

Rumor Mill
The oddsmakers jumped off the Patriots' bandwagon after the injury to quarterback Tom Brady, according to the Boston Herald. But, history tells us that Bill Belichick thrives on challenges and can game-plan with the best of them. New England upset the Jets, 19-10, largely because Matt Cassel (16-of-23, 165 yards) managed the game and the defense played well. (updated: 09/15/2008)

I buried them last week when Tom Brady went down. Maybe that was a bit premature. They still might be a playoff team.
