UEFA EURO 2008 captures the look and feel of the journey from qualification to the finals with rain and mud dynamics that impact playing conditions, real-time player ratings that change based on player performance, and a penalty kick mode that re-creates the elation and agony of a penalty shoot-out as if you were on the pitch. The official Euro 2008 game improves game play but neglects match atmosphere. It's possible to play the Euro qualification matches, using the real groups or by having a new draw, or to edit the Euro 2008 tournament and replace someone e.g. by England. A new campaign mode offers different challenges like winning a penalty shootout or avoiding to lose a match by controlling only one player of your team. The PS2-like engine of the game clearly shows that it's time for EA to sign a contract with fan favourite "Xbox 360 graphics".

There's more Euro '08 hype here than any actual improvement over FIFA 08 we all know and mostly like. Although the action is exciting and spectacular as usual, the ball falls a bit short of the target. [June 2008]

For now, next-gen console owners are performing tricks in their new boots while we're looking over the fence in last season's kit. [July 2008, p.82]

A disappointing cash-in that somehow manages to offer less than its license-bloated "FIFA" brethren. [July 2008, p.108]

After having played the next-gen-versions of the game, the PC-version of UEFA Euro 2008 turned out to be a huge disappointment! The general gameplay might be alright, but the graphics suck and the commentary throughout the game is rubbish and mostly boring. My recommendation: If possible, get the versions for 360 or PS3!
