What if mankind had to leave Earth, and somebody forgot to turn the last robot off? After hundreds of lonely years of doing what he was built for, WALL-E (short for Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class) discovers a new purpose in life (besides collecting knick-knacks) when he meets a sleek search robot named EVE. EVE comes to realize that WALL-E has inadvertently stumbled upon the key to the planet’s future, and races back to space to report her findings to the humans (who have been eagerly awaiting word that it is safe to return home). Meanwhile, WALL-E chases EVE across the galaxy and sets into motion one of the most exciting and imaginative comedy adventures ever brought to the big screen. Joining WALL-E on his fantastic journey across a universe of never-before-imagined visions of the future, is a hilarious cast of characters including a pet cockroach, and a heroic team of malfunctioning misfit robots. Players of the game take control of WALL-E and EVE through a fast-paced adventure based on the Disney/Pixar film. The game allows fans to relive some of the movie’s most thrilling moments as they explore 10 worlds filled with non-stop action and adventure, along with head-to-head multiplayer challenges. Players will recognize the storyline, characters and key locations from the WALL-E film as they carry out intense missions, dodge dangerous enemies and navigate their way through a futuristic world. In addition, the game contains new storylines and environments that movie-goers will not see in theaters. [THQ]

IGN
It's a fun little puzzle game that matches the simplistic charm of Pixar's metallic critter.

Games Master UK
A charming attempt to capture Pixar magic, but it won't appeal to all ages. [Sept 2008, p.78]

Da Gameboyz
Overall, WALL•E for the DS is perfect game for those younger and somewhat experienced gamers who loved the WALL•E movie and own a DS.

Cheat Code Central
The production values are impressive on the DS, the puzzle adventuring is fun and clever, and the game has quite a unique vibe. But, there isn’t much variation at all in either the look of the game or the gameplay itself, and the repetition weighs down the experience substantially.

Its art style is absolutely adorable, and the gameplay is simple but manageable.

A platform game that just passes muster, which is still better then the Iron Man and Hulk titles.

The puzzles aren't too difficult to figure out, but the title is perfectly geared to younger players, and is definitely the highlight of the bunch.

Game Chronicles
WALL-E on the Nintendo DS would be a fine game to rent but you may want to think it over before purchasing, you would really have to love either WALL-E or repetitive puzzle solving to own it.

Game Revolution
It’s a simple but elegant little package, just low-key and clever enough for regular gamers, with puzzle challenges that aren’t out of the ‘bot-claw grasp of younger fans of the movie.

A so-so puzzler spoiled by airborne interludes. [Oct 2008, p.77]

Modojo
To be fair, WALL*E is a decent game considering the source material, and kids will likely enjoy controlling the movie's stars and reliving moments from the film. However, the slow pacing, unnecessarily long levels and at times boring puzzles keep it from being as stellar as the movie it mimics.

WALL-E doesn't annoy or offend, but looks terrible and doesn't entertain either, and that leaves it only fit for landfill.

WALL-E's finicky camera and repetitive gameplay make this one lousy robot adventure.

It does have some nice ideas, but it only executes them sort of well and then pisses all over them with terrible gameplay mechanics, a camera that is surely the spawn of Satan and graphics that look like someone excreted them. Avoid.

WALL-E's just a bunch of schlock that shares a marketing department with a much, much better movie.

r b gave it a6:
Good enough for an afternoon (I started and finished it this way), and almost good enough to be classic, if only it had a few more gameplay options. It doesn't try to be anything more than a quick review of the movie, but the gameplay is great puzzle stuff, and at times reminds me of the Oddword games. You control Wall-E in 8 of 14 levels, crunching and chucking waste to activate switches and blast enemies. The levels are fun and varied. Unfortunately the other 6 levels are interchangeable wastes of time where you navigate Eve up, down, left and right to avoid oncoming obstacles. All this game needs is a few polishes -- some more levels and a level editor would be enough, even. As it stands, a not-too-wasteful purchase that neither I nor my son want to play a second time.
